I was in a conversation earlier today about the Rhode Island Vampire Epidemic.... It was amazing to me that I was the only person present that even knew that it had happened. (In reality it was consumptive tuberculosis that was killing folks, not vampires, but this did not prevent the disinterment and 'execution' of over a dozen 'vampires'.) Anyone else have bits of outre and forgotten history? Most of what I know is from New England. The Auld Grump, lots of folks don't seem to know about the Old Sow, and that is still around today.... |

Not too forgotten (as middle-aged and older folk in area still well remember), but my home of Galesburg, IL had a doctor who butchered up his wife a few scant decades ago. Also the neighboring community of Knoxville (from which Galesburg stole away the county seat over a century ago) had a real modern-day mummy. The mother of a family kept her aged father (dead) propped up in the living room, telling guests that he was asleep - all the while still collecting his Social Security checks. [I kid you not. I fancy myself a writer and wouldn't come up wth these!] |

Hohokam ruins are throughout the city and IIRC actually most of the canals in town were their originally...they have just been modernized. There is actually some interesting lore around town that I should start getting better versed in. |

New Orleans... *Shudder* A history of slavery, murder, and torture. She bears some similarity to Erzsébet (Elizabeth) Bathory. She was not a nice person at all.... The Auld Grump |

Counties on the border of Oregon and California banded together in November of 1941 to form the state of Jefferson. They dropped their plans after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. No vampires or family curses that I know of... Much closer to home in February of 1942 a Japanese submarine shelled the Ellwood, California oil refinery. Again no vampires or curses, also none of that stuff from the movie '1941' Excuse me me while I do some fact checking on the 'Zorro' legends... ![]() |

One of the cooler bits of local lore is about the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine. I think that it is cool that some local guys are working on a kickstarter board game themed around it: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cra ... n?ref=live |
