Right now has a sale on the first Witcher game, in the Enhanced edition for $4.99.

Witcher is one of those games that I keep telling myself I need to replay.

Magic is not bright, cheerful, and happy making.

The magic system is painful - for your character... the alchemical mixtures that power magic are toxic. :ymdevil:

The only downside is that the Witcher (your PC) is more than a bit of a jerk. He fits the setting, he fits his role, but he is not a nice guy.

Based on Wiedźmin - a Polish series of books, movies, and television shows.

Well worth a fiver. :)

I grabbed this to try out my new computer while I wait for diablo 3. Its all right but I find the combat enormously frustrating. With the delay just getting the sword drawn and actually getting it to swing the stupid thing takes a quarter or more of my life is gone before it even makes the first strike when facing a group of 4 or more. And thats just normal combat.

I can't stand trying to escort anyone. Everything seems to go after them. Its impossible to stay next to them. And then I've had things happen where I kill someone and try to attack the enemy standing right next to me and the computer stops me and walks all the way around the person I'm escorting to before attacking that figure.

But at least there are no instant potions and you get the whole delay in the middle of the fight to watch the drinking animation. Thats takes another big chunk of life.

Well I've been playing the witcher 2 on xbox and I find it SO much better. The controls make such a big difference. Not that the controls are fantastic there either. Some things are still very awkward. Worst is the multipurpose controls. Its so annoying to be in combat and trying to jump on or off a ledge or pick up a trap.

Some things are oddly done to. Like the dice game. You actually position the hand holding the dice with one stick and then roll them with the other. And they can actually bounce out of the play area if you roll too hard.

Silly question - did you look around for an improved GUI mod for either game? My roommie, unlike me, has finished the game - twice. His GUI is greatly different than the default that I use.

I don't see a way to change the controls on the 360 version. There only seems to be the option to invert the sticks.
