i have some old lead reaper minis and i know their own bases were a mess but maybe... with a lighter medium....


ah i don't know if a flexible material will be difficult to paint and if it will ruin faster...

i've added some more than i needed because i had to reach the 35€ threshold for free shipping (with my first temptative i was at 32 euros... the hell 6 more minis for 3€? hell yeah!)

When I saw this on The Miniature pages yesterday,.... I could not help but think that cReaper actually got it's demographic right, the one they were actually targeting with the LE line, will now score a hit with this product as this goes after who they were targeting not the one they said they were after.

The LE line was supposed to be marketed for the Pre-paint crowd but the production was never what the pre-paint customer wanted, ie more than 4 new minis a year (not to mention the minis they produced were ones long time prepaint purchaser were NOT looking for). The production schedule and mentality of cReaper for LE was very much modeled after their painter (already a customer) audience. Who had lack luster response to the LE line.

This is the product that cReaper was going for with their target audience in the beginning, nice to see they pulled there heads out of neither regions to actually realize they had something wrong, either the wrong product for their audience or just a wrong mentality for the product. I think this is the easy fix for them, make the product they were actually targeting all along.

Pre-paints require no wait time between products on the end user, so we need/can use them faster, the flaw in LE where they just never made new ones fast enough always putting the older ones back in production. With the needed end user lag of painting, this is designed for a slower release, and is targeting cReapers customer base already.

I expect this will do far better than LE and see far more releases and i bet 80% if not 100 of the ones in the Bones line that are yet to come out where ones that where scheduled to come out painted in the LE line but will likely never see the light of day. I think this spells the end of the LE line, as this will be cheaper to produce, and goes after the audience they already have and understand.

i'll try my idea of an abundant hand of gloss varnish as a protective layer, i've tried it to cover an heart sculpted with the excess of green stuff, and it was really... plastic!^^

the only downpart is that it takes exponentially more time to dry!^^

I got some today - the kobolds, the gnoll, and the purple worm.

The kobolds are tiny - smaller than a halfling. Detail is not bad for the size, and with six to a package I cannot complain, especially at that price. I need more of the little blighters, since one on one is hardly the kobold way. Reaper needs to do more of these.

Detail on the gnoll isn't bad at all - not as crisp as on some of the better metal or resin minis, but similar to most good quality metal minis from the nineties. Fur is defined, and his scale armor has detail - better detail than most miniatures from the eighties. The slight softening from the material is not all that noticeable - you actually have to be looking for it to find it. On a table, after painting, it will be hard to tell these apart from metal figures until you pick them up. There is a Pathfinder campaign where these critters will fit right in. For the price they are excellent.

The (not yet) purple worm... is a worm. I like the figure, but it likely was not much of a challenge to make in plastic. For the price it is fantastic!

So, I have to start comparing these not to current metal figures, but to figures from back when these prices were the norm - and these are much better than those long ago figures.

Given the choice between these and LE, I would take these hands down - I like painting minis. The price is very good, the quality is decent, and the next wave is already in the works....

That could be interesting. You're right, odd choice for plastic since the quantities will be low.

Quick update before I head out - paints really do stick quite well to the models without primer - so only prime for darker colors.

Also, always wash plastic minis - the mold release can cause paint not to stick.

Wow, it is easy to modify their plastic - I just added some tentacles from the Creature Components pack to the purple worm. I drilled some holes, pinned the tentacles in, and used greenstuff to mask the join.

I will likely be using it if Fallout at some point.

One of my players looked at the WIP for the betentacled worm and said 'Oh crap! A Neothelid! Where not ready to face one of those!'....

Afterwards I had to look up what a Neothelid is.... I was just planning to use it as a giant tube worm....
