So, Army Painter is coming out with a 32 paint, 3 ink, 1 matte coat, 7 brush paint set, for a pretty reasonable price. It also comes with the same painting guide that they gave away free at Christmas time - a guide that I was very happy with. The only downside of the set that I can see is that it assumes that you will be using a quick shade ink or dip technique, so there aren't any real shades, just colors for blocking, then dipping for all the shading, not a lot of highlighting. An exception appears to be the blues - lots of blues, so shading and highlighting can be done the classic way. A major upside is that the paints are very close matches for the colors in their color spray primer range. Being able to base coat and prime at the same time saved a lot of time when painting the zeds. I have used some of their paints and primers, and they are quite good - the paints are just under Reaper and Vallejo and a bit above GW in quality. (GW has the most expensive paints, but not the best paints....) The color primers are excellent. I am also quite fond of the Army Painter brushes, my only annoyance is that instead of using standard sizing they instead label the brushes things like 'Regiment', 'Tank', 'Drybrush', 'Detail', and 'Insane Detail'. ![]() The set runs about $100 at online discount - not bad at all. I am likely to get a set at some point, I just wish that they sold sets of the spray primers as well. The Auld Grump |

Thanks I'm also a fan of AP but I have P3+GW+AP+D&R paints so have more then enough shades and colours. AP/Vall/D&R go alot further and more reasonable cost per ml but P3 is thinner but far better coverage! |
