i just got a new iMac about 2 months ago, and i've been enjoying using iMovie quite a bit. i'm making a video for my nephew and i want to make it star wars themed. anyway, i've got the text crawl part of iMovie down and i've got the star wars music...as well as the star wars font. what i can't figure out is how to create the opening "Star Wars" logo that appears right after the far far away text. and yes i know i can download the logo from anywhere, but i don't want it to say "Star Wars", i want it to say whatever i want. i don't have photoshop, but i do have Gimp. so my question is....can someone tell me how to create the hollowed out (gold bordered) star wars logo? i've tried doing that in iMovie, but i can't get it to do just like the movie. |

Another question is, is your image using a transparent background? If you're in GIMP and your image has a white background, then it's not. I apologize if what I'm suggesting is obvious, irrelevant or incorrect - I'm only a casual user of GIMP... 1) When you create a new image in GIMP and you want a transparent background, make sure you expand the Advanced Options from the Create a New Image dialog, and change the "Fill with" option from Background color to Transparency. 2) If you've got an image already that isn't using transparency, select from the Layer menu Layer > Transparency > Add Alpha Chanel. Now, when you delete stuff from your image, it will leave a transparent area rather than a filled in area. Assuming you're not too far into making the image, you'll have better luck starting over and typing the text on a transparent background. |

What format did you save the final logo in? A jpg does not preserve transparency, a png will. A jpg could also have a bunch of pixel archives around the lines so if for instance you place it on a dark background and there are light pixel archives there will sometimes be a haloed or fuzzy, pixelated look. The same if it is placed on a light background and there are extra dark pixels.

It might look pixelated and crappy due to the size of the image being imported into iMovie. Have you tried making the logo larger before importing it? |

Using my font as a base... http://tfvanguard.deviantart.com/galler ... 2#/d37m9j4 In photoshop, select your text layer. Select your background color as the drawing color and type your text (which will look invisible at this point.) Select 'stroke, outside'. Make the color bright yellow and as thick, in pixels, as you need. This will bring out your outline. That'll do it. Another tip: Draw two to four times your intended output size, then scale down the image. This will smooth out your shaper edges and make the look more natural than if you were drawing at raw scale. |
