OK, so I'm in the market for a second job. I decided to deactivate my FaceBook account temporarily, so potential employers don't go snooping. Oddly enough, I found that I had another FaceBook account that I hadn't used since forever, that I had forgotten about. Seriously forgotten about, as in I don't remember ever having it even when looking at it. It's me alright, but those memories are GONE! So what does this mean to you? This is going to be my new Social Networking site for the time being, and I am going to plumb the depths of "Off Topic Chatter" until one of my fellow mods smacks me with the Mod Stick and puts me on the Short Leash. You have been warned. |

Well, when I google my real name, it's pretty clear pretty soon that I'm into weightlifting and geeky games. This hasn't stopped me from getting a serious, respectable white-collar job (lawyer); so I find this self-censorship a bit, hm, excessive. I wouldn't want to work at a place where I had to actively hide my hobbies. On the other hand, Facebook accounts do seem to make accidental data leakage easy, even with reasonable precautions (I'm not on Facebook or any similiar social networking site myself). So, while I wouldn't try to clean the net from my traces with regards to a job interview, I totally sympathize with deactivating a FB account! ![]() Anyway, good luck with finding a good job soonest. And if your job search means you're going to post more build pics or other stuff, I'm all for it! ![]() |

Personally, I suffer from a serious case of being a closet geek. No one at work knows about the terrible things I am interested in, yes that really is how I think of my interests (to be fair it used to include larping). My facebook has occasional mentions of geek stuff, but is so scattered I'd be surprised if anyone found it...also I have EVERYTHING set to private, so if you aren't my friend you see basically nothing. Hell, I even got my tattoos on my legs way back cause I figured if I ever ended up with a job I can wear shorts to, then it won't matter if I have tattoos. I'd be more concerned with shady alcohol/drug pictures than anything when considering what an employer might find on a Facebook. |

Yeah...my real name is pretty easy to track down since their are only a handful of my family left (since it was a made up name given my grandfather at the orphanage). |

I've got an interview Monday at 2:30, hopefully I'll get the job. I miss my FaceBook more than I expected... |

I consider Facebook much as I do cell phones; they are both part of a HIVE activity and addictive. The whole 'I must have contact, contact now' thing is worrisome to me. If I did not use the internet to do most of my shopping (saves gas and I rarely pay for shipping) I would just disconnect from it. Just my opinion. Hope your interview goes well. |

Congrats on getting it first time round - that's good going in this market. Do a good job and they'll want even more of your time. Just remember to keep enough time for building and gaming ... oh yeah, and family ![]() |

Good Luck! What are you trained to do/have a degree in? Perhaps someone here would hire you or would know of someone looking for someone with your skills. I just googled myself. Apparently I am a magician in Boulder, Colorado. Who knew! |

Just spent some time on google myself finding the people I work with.... I'm happy to say there is amazingly little info about me online. That's the nice thing about having an alias that you use on line, not much shows up under my real name. |

I am going to be working with autistic children. It isn't too far from my main job, which is working with mentally-retarded adults. Autism and retardation are both on the developmental disability spectrum. I have done about 10 college units relating to my main job for my certification with the state, and have over 5(!) years of experience in the field. I am starting at about 20% more at the new job than they normally pay due to my experience. |
