Well, when I google my real name, it's pretty clear pretty soon that I'm into weightlifting and geeky games. This hasn't stopped me from getting a serious, respectable white-collar job (lawyer); so I find this self-censorship a bit, hm, excessive. I wouldn't want to work at a place where I had to actively hide my hobbies.
On the other hand, Facebook accounts do seem to make accidental data leakage easy, even with reasonable precautions (I'm not on Facebook or any similiar social networking site myself). So, while I wouldn't try to clean the net from my traces with regards to a job interview, I totally sympathize with deactivating a FB account!
Anyway, good luck with finding a good job soonest. And if your job search means you're going to post more build pics or other stuff, I'm all for it!
