I'm trying to find some good templates to be used in D&D 4e (squared)! But i'm looking for something a bit peculiar: 1)i want to print it on a transparency (so you can see what's behind and i can put some note with an erasable marker) 2)i need templates for 1 single square, burst 1-2-3 (that should be enough) 3)The top would be having some visual effects like fire, ice, radiant, necrotic and so on i don't mind if the image it's the same just at different sizes! have you find something pre-made? another solution could be having a template for a 7"x7" gridded square to be printed on a transparency (then i could apply on a different layer the appropriate image stretching or shrinking it to fit my needs)! p.s. i'm not good with photoshop and similar programs! i know i could make it by myself, i simply dont' know how to make perfect 1" squares! |

Your wish is WWG's command: These don't require transparencies (though you could print them on transparencies if you wanted) and they include full 3D blast templates. FYI, The BattlePack has a great range of condition and other markers that are great for D&D. |

However the Cone templates (Flamers, etc.) really do Not work for D&D, because the template is a teardrop, not the 90 degree wedge of those games. Add in the forced use of grids, and the usefulness of the templates drops severely. Great for Warhammer and Warhammer 40K, not so great for D&D and its offspring. For that... there is one competitive version of Pathfinder (Conflict) and there's a company that makes templates out of bent wire. (My suggestion on that front - get the wire and a pair of pliers, and do it yourself.) The Auld Grump |

D&D 4e templates are VERY easy to make with the above mentioned set. All 4e shapes are squares (1x1, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, etc.). Older editions (3.5 and earlier) have the issues you guys mentioned above, but even those aren't too bad for converting. This could likely even fall into physical kitbash realm, instead of needing to do anything digitally. |

I would purchase this if there was a kitbash for D&D or Pathfinder. |

I purchased the sets this past weekend and am planning on using them, with possible modification for my Pathfinder campaign. I'm trying to move my players away from the gridded movement combat system and into a non-grid system for tactical combat. Once I get a few of the cone templates created, I'm going to compare them with the grid of my battle mat to get an idea of what I need to do to modify them. |

I have to admit, I'm a little curious as to why such a project would be necessary, since the game requires a miniatures grid and all of the mechanics assume counting squares on the grid. (A 3x3 burst is 3 squares by 3 squares... which are already on the map for you, there are no cones, and beams must go along the 8 axis). It wouldn't be hard or time consuming to create such a template, but it seems extraneous? |

While you can count the grid squares, it might not be that easy if you're got any kind of terrain placed on top of the battle mat. |

I've never needed templates for 4e. Pathfinder has regularly sent me scrambling to guestimate what is happening. IMO... This is something they did right to speed things up for 4e. I guess I just don't care for the precision. Listen to Grump: Get wire and pliers. |

This seems to be a case of where there are multiple good answers. As designed, the WWG templates will not work for a strict adherence to 4E rules and to Grump's point there is no way around that. However, how about being a little creative? That is what RPing is all about. IRL games I love to improvise in combat. Using the templates provided can add some new visual flair to the game...and to me, that is more important that following the boring grid. The grid does help weed out beyond the shadow of a doubt exactly where things can/should go, but I prefer gridless and close if possible. |

See about for discussion of a kitbash to the BattlePack Basics set that will work for D&D, etc. (FYI, ehisey has offered to put one together if there is enough interest; skunkape has also offered though may not be able to get to it right away.) Please post interest in such a kitbash, and any comments or requirements relating to it, over there. |

I made 3.5 fully 3D templates, that work for a few systems. They were pretty easy to make, I even made cones of the standard 6 inch types (even have them Robo cuttable). http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c5/Gh ... G_1090.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c5/Gh ... G_1107.jpg But for 4th, it is all square so i just use effect markers from Balor miniatures, they work nice. |
