Mongoose is discontinuing RuneQuest II with the loss of the license on 30 November. How this will effect Wraith Recon, I do not know. Glorantha is definitely ending as well. The Auld Grump |

OK, so I've seen Runequest around since the late '70s, and I've never paid much attention to it. I'm going to wander over to my friend Mr. Wikipedia's place to see if I can find anything about it (besides ducks and a walktapus.) But where do I start with Runequest before it is gone? EDIT: Hooray for research! But now I have some +specific* questions about Mongoose Runequest II. 1) Do I need *just* the Core Rulebook? Or do I need the Glorantha book as well? 2) Is the Compendium I worth having? 3) What am I missing in my evil plans? What else is actually *necessary* to play, and what is recommended? Thank you for any and all input... |

Thank you, Steve. One of the big draws of Runequest for me *is* Glorantha, so I'll need to figure out what I need to get going with that as well. And thanks for the "d100" tip as well. Sadly, I doubt that I will ever actually PLAY Runequest, but I would like to play *with* it in much the same way I do with Traveller. Besides, what's not to love about a game with ducks as player characters and a monster called a Walktapus? And as far as minis are concerned, I ran Basic and Advanced D&D with miniatures back in the day, so I don't no stinkin' grids lol! (Yes, I really *am* that old, even if I act like a kid! I bought my first D&D stuff back in 1980...) If anyone else can chime in about Glorantha, I would appreciate it. |

I do know that the recent (last couple of years) of Mongoose Glorantha stuff is all second age, whereas most of the previous stuff published was third age. I believe that caused some mind-wrenches for people as things that were 'supposed to' be destroyed (in the third age) weren't (in the second age). You might post your question on the Mongoose forum (http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/). There are a lot of rational Gloranthophiles there who will probably point you right. Steve |

This is the reason I refuse to purchase any game from Mongoose. Eight out of ten times they discontinue their games. Not worth the investment to me. |

This brings back some ancient memories!!! Never bothered getting into the latest versions by Mongoose, for basically the same reason as Mr HP........ also I have a ton of stuff from previous incarnations of RQ. RQ was always a game that I loved playing and GMing, but most of my group preferred AD&D at that time. Now I am based on the other side of the world with a different bunch of guys (and gals) I may have to pull out 'Apple Lane', 'Griffin Island' and the good old 'TrollPack' boxes. Anyone remember the GW version of RQ??? |
