I'm trying to figure out some sets to get for a friend of mine... He's running a D&D game I'm playing in. So far we've been in dungeon-type areas, snowy areas (I think we're done with those), grassy areas, swamp areas, and a city. I'm thinking of getting him 2 or 3 sets, but here's the thing: he probably won't build anything. More likely he'll just take textures and put them on a map and print it out. I guess I want a few sets that give the greatest amount of variety. I'm looking through the sets myself, but I'd appreciate any thoughts anyone has. Thanks! |

Four essential sets for just printing tiles to play on: 1) Streets Of Himmelveil, for those city adventures 2) Hinterlands, for generic wilderness 3) Swampwoods, for swamps and tree villages 4) Arenaworks OR Mars Station OR Atlantis for various sand textures, Atlantis has the advantage of compatibility with Hinterlands but the sand has a very "sea" theme. I prefer Mars Station for my desert, because I live in the American Southwest with a lot of red desert. And red desert is also good for some Egyptian stuff too... |

From what you're saying the TLX sets sound like way too much effort, except where they include anchorless tiles. Here's my suggestions: Dungeons: . A great dungeoneering set, despite the (non-TLX) graphics being a bit dated, that is fast to build (even the 3D components). The 3D components might just be simple enough to tempt him into 3D terrain. (FYI, the current below-ground TLX sets don't offer much in the way of anchorless tiles.) Wilderness: . TLX detail but with a good selection of anchorless wilderness tiles. Plus it includes some simpler practical foliage options if/when he decides to go that far. City: . Again TLX detail, but with a good range of anchorless tiles. |

If all he wants are floor tiles and props, the older DungeonLinX version of Lair of the Dragon God might be a good choice - no longer available here, I don't think, but it is around on Paizo. The Auld Grump |
