I had something similar as a kid - the only real difference is that the 'bomb' was a marble that rolled down a chute on the horizontal arm, into the plane, and out through the 'bomb bay'. It was made during WWII, wood, painted bright blue, and had the RAF target on the sides. I hadn't thought of that toy for years - it disappeared while we were moving out of Southie to Kittery. When I was a kid we sort of played army men like that. Basically you set up all you people, vehicles, and base and then took turns throwing rocks from one of your units positions to destroy your enemies units. If you had planes left you could walk over their side and drop bombs onto them from above. |

When my son was in elementary school, he would always ask for batteries when they died. Lots and lots of batteries. I tried to explain that they didn't work any more, but he still wanted them. Then I wandered into his room to find rows and rows of army men, legos, star war figures, you name it, lined up for battle. And Tommy on the other side of the room with a rigged-up catapult, launching dead batteries into their ranks. Ok, I get it. The batteries do still work. Silly me. I'm sure the WWII army men (not to mention the StarWars guys) were wondering how they got caught in a Napoleonic reenactment. Steve |
