Post subject: | Overzealous Moderation |
I'm distressed by the immediate closing of Silveri's topic: Sure, I can see closing the other topic about breasts on miniatures (mostly because of the pictures), but the follow-up topic about popular preferences for mini design seems entirely reasonable, since 1) This is the Gaming, Geek Culture & Off Topic Chatter forum. 2) There's nothing inappropriate in Silveri's post (unless acknowledging that females have breasts is now taboo). 3) Another moderator encouraged him to make a new topic! I appreciate the civility on these forums, and I am grateful for the work the moderators due to maintain that order, but I think this was too far. |

I agree. Not just about that particular thread. |

This is first and fore most a place of business. They can censor what they want. If you want free speech... you can go somewhere else. |

You might want to be clear about what imagery is acceptable. I posted an image with all naughty bits covered, and it was censored. Perhaps the unit of measure should be that you would be willing to cook bacon while wearing it? |

Actually, I'm glad you brought that up. The thing is not so much that those images were in the thread, but that they were embedded in the post rather than being posted as text links only. With a text link, you're giving people an opportunity to choose whether or not to view the image (they get to make the call on whether it's safe to do so or not), but when you just embed the front cover of this month's issue of Jiggly Juggs in a post, you're robbing other forum users of that choice--you're basically boobrolling them whether they like it or not, and that's the kind of stuff we're trying to cut down on. Rule of thumb: if it's something you don't look forward to explaining to nimrod relatives, tightly wound coworkers, or small children, and you wouldn't want somebody else putting you in that situation, don't embed the image in a post. Leave it as a text link. That was one of the main points we failed to make clear to the moderation team, and is one of the things I alluded to when I mentioned doing more with a lighter touch. Be thoughtful to each other, be mindful that others frequently visit from work or in the presence of others, and don't make things unnecessarily awkward or uncomfortable for them. |
