Or you can use the Whitewolf "Mage the Ascencion" magick system.
Basically, there are several areas of effect called Spheres) (Mind, Time, Spirits, Entropy, Forces, Matter, Space, etc.). The level in each Sphere represents the control a mage has on this particular element. A "spell" is a unique combination of those elements. This can easily be adapted to a rune system...

Grump must have made a typo. We just watched these again recently and he definitely narrowly gets away.

Pfft. There was no Darth Vader in the first Star Wars. I remember clearly - Anakin was like 8, and the main character was all like "Meesa gonna blah blah blah...".

You're an old gamer when you remember when Lucas made GOOD movies.

Look for 'test screening', 1 May 1977. (So, not full theatrical release.) An example of the questionnaire is on one of the late Peter Cushing's .

I guess it really does not count as messing around with continuity if it was the test screening... kind of the point of having them.

*EDIT* Those test reels may have gone into circulation on the second run theaters - film cost serious money, even in the seventies....

Test screening result in some good, and some very bad changes. One particular character living or dying is pretty minor compared to how studios have changed some movies in response to a few hundred audiences members.

I'd be quite interested in finding out what else went on with test screenings of the original Star Wars.
