Ordering Warpath tonight - starter armies for dwarfs and orcs in spaaaace! (Thinking about naming the orc/marauder leader Link Hogthrob....)

Or... maybe not.

The Ultimate deals look like the way to go - the only waffling was whether to get the one split between the two armies or just the Forge Fathers.

The squats, erm... forge fathers certainly seem interesting, but the released models haven't inspired me (yet) to purchase any. Plus the army deals aren't that suited for proxying GW rules with them.

I await in anticipation what they'll eventually come up with.

I am wondering how well some of the Maraudorcs will do for Super Mutants in a Fallout game - that leader looks like it will work well, but I have seen naught of the standard plastic troopers yet, nor the Marauder vehicle.

Played KoW against my roomie, twice. Once as dwarfs, once as undead.

Won as dwarfs, lost as undead, for the first time using a chess clock.

Using the chess clock hurt me, bad! I simply started running out of time as the undead in the first game, then started rushing things, which you can't do as undead in KoW.

My opponent did even worse as undead with the clock than I did. He actually ran out of time.

Neither of us had any such problem as the dwarfs.

All in all... thumbs up for using the clocks - a pain in my butt, but I think that the pressure makes for a better game.

Hmmm, Beasts of War, in an otherwise not very satisfying review of Kings of War 2011 Edition mentioned that because you never remove figures from the unit base you can do up each of the units as a small diorama.

This... bears thinking about, since I have already been tempted that way by the very interesting Violet Death army that has been featured there:


The pillar features four zombies, and takes up the same horizontal space as four zombies.

Heh, walking terrain, nuthin'! One of the pieces is a mausoleum, that has an MP3 player inside....

I am think that these would look great, just sitting on the shelf.

Not likely to do it though - I use my minis for both wargames and for RPGs, so I want to be able to remove them. But one or two mini dioramas to bulk out the units? Take one of the casualty minis from Foundry, then clump a bunch of ghouls enjoying their nuncheon around it. (Nom, nom, nom!)

I've considered lumping a few zeds together on a single, bigger base; both for father away hordes (which can split up into single minis when they close), and to do horde type zeds.

So, the hardcover for Kings of War comes out in June, though the PDF download will remain free.

Over time the rules have grown on me - I can win pretty consistently as the dwarfs (only elves causing any real problem) and more than half the time with undead.

I have not tried the humans yet. They look... flexible. And Pike phalanxes sound very nice.

Isn't the published book also a revised edition? Any word on changes/improvement? I believe I read that the PDF of the updated version will STILL be free, however.
