If you enjoyed Pamdemic then there is a good chance you will like Defenders of the Realm - fantasy adventure with a Pandemic styled monster placement in each region.

My wife and I have started playing Agricola. We loved the Catan games and others like them so I said what the heck and ordered it and all the expansions. Its alot of fun watching to see how each player decides to allocate his actions in a turn based on what cards they have. I also got the premium euro set of all the meeples, animeeples, vegimeeples etc for the game. They came in a nice wooden carring case and what's cool is that most or all of these tokens can be used for many of those other games, like Catan. We've only played with the deck from the main box so far, but I want to break out the legendary creatures deck and Farmers on the moor expansion next time we play.

Defenders of the Realm and Agricola are on the list for the future.

I am going to start trying to make sure we play each game a few times before moving onto a new pile of games. I don't want to end up with a backlog of video games AND board games. lol.

My wife and I played Ticket to Ride again and enjoyed it greatly. she lost pretty badly the first ttime we played, but won by eleven or twelve points this time. She loves Zombie Dice too. I am glad to be spending our time doing this instead of always watching mind numbing TV.

Yeah, that's something I can never understand: people in society think it's totally fine to just sit on the couch and watch TV for hours each night, or waste a ton of money and time on professional sports, yet look down on those of us who play video games, role playing games, or board games as if WE'RE the ones who don't want to be social.

The best come-back that I've heard for that came from comedian Jay Mohr, who is apparently an avid World of Warcraft player, at a WoW convention: "They tell me to go out and get a social life. I tell them that I have one. I hang out with my friends and play a game online. By the way, have fun with your 'fantasy football league.'

I hold (near) weekly board games at my place too, and we have played a few RPGs on occasion. Done right, you can involve people who have never played without too much trouble. Some of the board games suggested here are great games (Shadows Over Camelot is one of my favorites).

If you want to do things for cheap (ie: free, if you don't mind printing out some stuff):

1. Zombie Plague - Check out boardgamegeek for all the files you need to print your very own zombie game. It's a lot better than "Zombies!!!" in my opinion. We like this game so much that I just recently added converted Horrorclix zombies to the box (using the tokens from the Terraclips sets as bases nonetheless). I would suggest printing out all of the extra maps, and using Headless Hollow's one-page rule sheet. The black-backed zombie plague cards have the most options.

2. Savage Worlds - This is a great, and versatile role-playing system that has tons of adventure settings for it. I'd recommend downloading the free test drive rules and "The Hunt" adventure. That will give you standees for the players and NPCs, as well as all the rules you need to try out the system. My players love it, because it's easy to learn and plays really fast. (There is also a GREAT zombie series for Savage Worlds too, if you want to roleplay the zombie apocalypse...)
