Needless to say I'm still on my old box (so far). I was reading through the quote and though I should post it to get the Boyz nod.

Ok now I'm on a slippery slop but Linux OS is good? By that I mean GUI friendly or is it very old school command line. I know I sound like I live in a milk carton but I haven't a clue about OS other APples and WinCrap. Wincrap wins out as most games launch with Wincrap with out too much of a hitch.

As for the Network Interface Card this current box has the sucker built-in, now I'm guessing that not the best? I only use the network for connecting to the internet (and I guess gaming on-line every so often), would that tax the system much? Would it warrent another card?

Alway feel free to PM you pictures - I'm ready for them now as I have place plastic film on my chair.

For connecting to the interent, an onboard NIC really should be just fine.

64bit processors are only useful if you have 64 bit applications to run on them (hint: you don't - yet). I think it will still be a few years until 64bit is mainstream.

If you want to play games, go with Windows. Linux can handle anything else - just not games (at least not easily).

RAID 1 is nice for backup, but you'll only have half as much disk space to use. RAID 0 will give faster disk performance, but woe unto you if one of the disks fail.

You'll need some kind of sound card (onboard or seperate) to have any kind of sound - even with headphones. Unless you have really nice headphones, go with the onboard sound.

Do MoBo's not come with built-in Soundcards, one that should handle basic stuff like gaming? And yes I have sexy headphones, if I'm stuck with using speakers on the ears then they have to be good.

My current MoBo came with an onboard sound card but I install the other in the hopes of getting a 5.1 or 7.1 system (geez the wife didn't like that idea much). Will I notice a lack of quality if I don't put a third party card in?

Onboard sound is usually just fine unless your a major audiophile. I did run into staticy sounds on a cheap mobo with a slow processor, but that was the only time onboard didn't work well for me.
