As for pre-order Vs. buying it when it comes out, if you plan on getting it anyway, you really should pre-order, if only for the insane amount of bonuses.

BTW, note that the Player's Guide available right now is essentially the first chapter of the book. The next section (chapters 2-6 or so) will be available as a free PDF to everyone who's pre-ordered by next week.

And I don't even like D&D...

Ptolus is the coolest!

I preordered it just a few weeks before the deadline, but i did so on faith in the author. - I had already been using a lot of his other products. However, at the time I had no idea how much of an impact it was going to have on me (as a DM).

Athough I have been playing D&D for 17 years, I've only been DMing the last three. When I took over as DM I immediatly began world building. Oh, I had FR books, the Greyhawk Gazzeteer, Dragonlance, Eberron, and the Diamond Throne but I was not satisfied with any of those as far as running my campaigns. So, I spent three years creating towns, cities, realms, continents, empires etc., etc.

Ptolus arrived, and it all went flush. Well not literaly of course, but its the campaign setting I'll be using from now on. Even the lands around it (the world of Praemal). However, all my work was not in vain. It makes me apreciate Ptolus that much more! Not to mention world building can be quite laborsome, so its really lifted a weight off me.

Oh, btw, I'm new here (smiles and waves at everyone). I hadn't really intended this topic to be the firt I posted in, but I saw the title and knew what it was about, and after reading ALL of the previous posts, I felt the urge to throw in my 2 cents.

I'm a little bummed about Ptolus actually. I had just contacted Monte Cook regarding doing some model sets for one of his settings but he informed me he already had a "terrain artist" taking care of that for him. Not long after came Ptolus and associated tiles from SkeletonKey. WorldWorks could have done some amazing things with such an expansive setting.

Oh well, on to Arcraetia and Himmelveil for us

I don't have any builds yet because I only very recently learned of this site and its products (from EnWorld).

However, with that said, I have every intention of purchasing and using Castleworks (Utimate), and Villageworks. Actually I want all the fantasy stuff. But I plan on starting with Castleworks because after watching the slide show and clip i'm certain I'll have enough to represent the city part of Ptolus. It may not be exact as far as the outer appearnce of some of Ptolus' buildings, but again, I'm sure it will work. Honestly though, even if Worldworks isn't a part of the whole Ptolus experiance it doesn't mean you couldn't go ahead and come up with a model set based off old german or Persain architecture (hint, hint).

I haven't worked in 6 months (going to school), so we've been living off of what my wife brings home and my student loan (read, right now, even 15 dollars for a non essetial item is a bit of a stretch). But I will begin work shortly in the field I am currently studying (aviation maitenance). And then of course my schedual will be a bit busier, but my wife is also a gamer, so recruting her to help print, cut and glue buildings and props for the game shouldn't be too much of a problem. Its all just gonna have to wait one more full week (you know, for that thing called payday).

Thats really sad, Denny, that you couldn't get in on the Ptolus stuff. I am not a huge fan of SKG. I just don't like the way some of the tiles are laid out. SKG tiles were the first I purchased and started using (moving from a mat and dry earase markers). I was frustrated at times however because the individual tiles were often too small and not always centered the same so I could print another type of terrain on the other side of the paper. So I pruchased Gridsmith and started printing my own tiles in a 5 by 8 pattern which worked much better (not to mention I could actualy put four tiles to one sheet of a paper by reloading the paper [so there was one at either end and they were double sided]).

Now, of course I'm wanting to take my game to a 3D level. And Worldworks was just what the doc- err, DM ordered. Or will order as the case may be. This web site has done a superb job of representing the product. I've visted the site every day sinice I found it earlier in the week and just drooled over the possibilities.

As soon as I am able, I will post some pics of the builds and gamers in action.

As a side note to Denny - If you are already advertising in Dungeon or Dragon magazines, than forgive the suggestion to do so. I haven't seen the ads if you have (or just don't remember). Although I had considered trying to go 3D before, it was just a fleeting thought, until I started seeing Dwarvenforges ads in the back of my Dungeon mags. That encouraged me to do so, but it was ultimately your product (and its more realistic price) that made it a possibilty and a definate (for me at least). I can imagine advertising is expensive, but I recomend a large ad like those other peoples to really help catch attention and gain interest.
