Hey, does anyone know if the Reaper Bones will need to be primed like the misnamed "Finecast" from GW? Once I figured out how to prime that, it was OK, but if I don't have to, I'd rather not!
I've done Bones primed and not primed. I will probably prime them.
Unprimed, you can't thin your basecoat with water much if it at all - it causes the paint to bead on the miniature, and its a real paint to lay down that first coat. And forget an initial base wash. If you thin with something other than water (I haven't tried with the Liquitex Airbrush Medium, which I've started using for most of my thinning purposes), then you might be okay.
Once the basecoat was down, there was no difference.

thanks, that;s pretty much what I needed to know. What did you use for primer? For the Finecast, I needed to use Rust-O-Leum sandable primer. Was the ONLY thing I could find to work.
I have Rust-o-leum in Black and Gray, I think, and Krylon in white. (Or maybe Krylon in black - I don't recall.) I'm going to go all Rust-o-leum once the Kyrlon is done.
I do have Army Painter Plate Mail primer coming, but that is specifically for the WH40K minis.

I didn't have much trouble with a 1:1 ratio of paint and water for a base coat with my Bones Ogre. I would say that you guys should check out some of the discussion about it on the Reaper forums. It seems pretty split on what people think works best.

I got 3 more terminators (mostly) done this week. I need to clean up some highlighting, finish the bases (need to cleanup the base itself, and I want some brown in there), add decals to the rest of the shoulders and then I'm done. Oh, one more thing - I also ordered some micron pens so I can do some writing on the purity seals and name plates. Waiting for those to come before I can put my first unit in the books.

I also finally got my Plate Mail primer from frpgames (pro-tip: don't order anything you want soon from a company when they have an end-of-year blowout sale). I used that on the last 3, saving a basecoat. Its great stuff. I primed a few more for the next round of painting.

Been assembling a bunch of 40k minis so not a lot of painting, but decided to work on the group I have in progress, with some new brushes to test out. Did some basecoating with a #4 with a nice stiff tip. Pretty nifty. Lots of paint on the brush.
Also, I worked on thinning paints today, specifically on the basecoat. And learned that I need to lighten the pressure up - kinda the hard way. (Plus, gravity works.)

Did some drybrush practicing tonight. These are some Ziterdes statues, made of resin, maybe two inches tall or so. I primed them gray , then washed them with black inch, then applied multiple lighter gray drybrush layers, then finally a linen white drybrush layer. I'm pretty happy and learned a lot about drybrushing doing this.
