okay so here's my final draft so to speak. here is the full map as to what will be revealed at the very beginning of the encounter:



there will be some mist covering up the floor (cave entrance and pillar in the back, as well as a potentially yeti should things get too easy for the pc's). but once the party gets further out to the middle of the bridge, i will reveal the following:



the goblin archers will be in the back at the cave entrance on top of the pillar at the top left of the picture firing arrows at the party on the bridge. its hard to see, but i have another cave entrance at the bottom left hand corner, and then at the bottom right is a way to get back up to the bridge should the pc's fall

the goblin archers are minions, but the goblin delvers that will be on the bridge are standard monsters and will be attacking and bull rushing to push them off. finally, about half way through the encounter i'll introduce a yeti at the far end of the bridge who will attempt to throw boulders at the party to push them off. the bridge itself will require acrobatics checks (DC = 7...easy DC and they are 6th lvl. plus two of the party members have only a +2 to acrobatics. i want them to fall, but not ALL the time). if they fall into the ice, i'll have it break immediately and they will take falling damage plus 5 cold damage. they will also take 5 ongoing cold for freezing (save ends).

it should be a pretty challenging encounter, but it needs to be because the last 3 were WAY too easy for them.

okay so i ran the encounter last night. it was a success, but not an EPIC success like i was hoping for. the long and short is that the players never got more than a quarter of the way across the bridge. the archers worked in the beginning to do some good damage, but the invoker dispatched of 3 of them with an AoE attack (daily). in hindsight, i should've made the archers have lower amounts of HP but still attack the same as minions.

but essentially once the archers were gone, all of the combat took place where you see the pics. the players NEVER fell off the bridge, even with only +2 to acrobatics...they just rolled well even on hits. the goblin delvers on the bridge on the other hand got pushed off twice, but i left them down there to move around and try to flank the pc's so as to move them forward. well that was taking longer than expected, and it didn't really spook them at all. SO...i told them that a roar was heard underneath the mist under the bridge and eventually 2 yeti's appeared. one on each end of the bridge.

in the end, the combat was good and fast paced...and the healer (warlord) of the group used all of his healing abilities. plus i bloodied everyone at least once, and the tank took about 100 damage altogether. i got some opinions back and everyone had a good time so all is well.
