I have found no less than 6 wild west skirmish/wargame systems.

Does anyone have a recommendation? For RPG's I use deadlands, but I want more of a skirmish game (10-20 models per side, quick resolution to combat).

Legends of the West by GW sounds ok, but there are other companies out there. I'm curious what other's are using and what your thoughts are on them?

You really should look at , the Grandson of Deadlands. Infact they are using Savage Worlds (and the rulebook too) for the new Deadlands. Savage Worlds has the grunt and the fun to easly run Wild West out of the box (book) with no add-ons but this year we will see the release of revised Deadlands (a wondbook wonder with out the metaplot splat books), since the book doesn't contain the rules (see the fore mentioned above) it has ahell of a lot more setting space.

Pick up the pdf of Savage Worlds - save a ton of money on the hardcopy, read it and play, then you'll see how you can use this system for nearly anything! And the system is fun too.

My experience is once you've tried them you will want the full pdf/hard copy of Savage Worlds very much. Better than applepie. Yummie!

Legends of the West is a terrific game and is probably exactly what you're looking for. If you don't want to pony up for the rulebook then try Westmunda. It's a Wild West version of Necromunda and is available free:

There is new RPG that is coming out called Aces and Eights from KenzerCo. They came out with the skirmish rules (mini combat) a few months back for 15 bucks and they love giving out support material. We haven't played it, but our gaming group got the skirmish game and plan to play it next month.

Lots of stuff I forgot. I forgot that Deadlands is going to be re-released using Savage Worlds System. I also forgot that I downloaded the test drive and the Skirmish rules. I just need to print them out on the cool color laser printer at work .

How does Savage Worlds due for WW2 rules?

I'm planning on using WW2, modern Street Violence type guys, in Mayhem. Hopefully WWG will be doing a western set soon as either an add on for the Modern, or as a seperate set with it's own expansion.

I found another feebie system based on Fantasy Games Unlimited

rules, but that is more for roleplaying.

Since I love Deadlands for my western games and Savage Worlds will be the new Deadlands system, does Savage Worlds work well if you want to do skirmish only (please don't flame, I have not read the Showdown rules yet)?

The original Boot Hill from TSR was really quick and easy, that is, as I remember it. If you could find a copy of it, you might want to check it out to see if it's what you're interested in.

I have seen GW Wild West at Brookhurst Hobbies. If it plays like Mordheim, then it should be fun.

Hmmm, I have received a coupon for a game called Tombstones 'n' Tumbleweeds All I know about it is that it is a Western skirmish miniatures game, and that with the coupon the PDF is 5 bucks.

I just picked up Legends Of the Old West and the first expansion Frontier. We are going to start a campain down at End Game as soon as I finish building Terrain and paint'n minis
