and here are some pics! left pic is where they were fighting the wolves (bears came after 1 round) and the blue is the ravene they climbed to get out...and then the avalanche came from the blue stuff. although the minotaur (invoker) player used his floating disc ritual to nerf my "scale the wall" skill challenge. oh well. the middle pics are the eyeballs (mushrooms), fingers (cinnamon rolls), and lips/teeth (apple, peanut butter, white chocolate chips). my picture taker of the group was supposed to take pics of the other non-edible stuff (fake hands and the whole spread i created...looked good) but i dont have those yet. the pic on the right is the meat grinder. worked well!

I'm resurrecting this dead post (see what I did there?) because it's time for another Halloween Nerdfest for my players!! Whoo! Last year was an absolute blast thanks to some clever inspiration from all of you. I want to one up myself this year, but I want to do something totally different so as to keep them on their toes.

Right now the party is in the catacombs of Gardmore Abbey as I've been running that module for a few sessions. They are enjoying it, but I think I may depart from it just a little for the Halloween one shot adventure. I've got a couple of ideas for a setting that I'm wanting to run with this year:

1. haunted forest - I don't really have an adventure idea yet for this setting, but I'm thinking about getting some fake plants or making cardboard cutout trees and putting lights behind them all over the basement where we play....gives the illusion of the forest itself. I also found something online where you can take an empty cardboard paper towel roll and cut eyes into it...and then put a glowstick in it to make it look like eyes coming out of a shrub or something.

2. haunted house - I liked the premise of the movie 13 Ghosts with the sliding glass walls and such. Basically I like the idea of the rooms changing constantly so the players get lost easily. I might throw in a flesh golem or something here. There are some good ideas in this post that I may draw from as well. This one wouldn't be as cool as far as props and stuff, but it might have more adventure to it.

so yeah, last year I killed the players and took away their character sheets and gave them new ones (undead versions) and they loved it. They really liked the twist of having the unsuspecting cabin dweller guy being a cannibal and warlock as well. so as I'm typing this, I'm leaning towards the haunted forest environment.....thoughts or ideas for an adventure? Right now they are accompanied by a cleric, and after they clear the catacombs they will probably go back to town to turn in their quests. So at that point I could present them with a hook. I like the whole concept of having maybe the cleric end up being the bad guy, so I need to tie that into leading them into a haunted forest.

there was a great adventure back in Dungeon when I was in college. The party had arrived at a small fort and were staying the night when a blizzard hit. Slowly, one my one, the inhabitants of the fort turned up dead, horribly mutilated, ripped apart, etc. VERY much like John Carpenter's The Thing. I seriously doubt you could get your hands on that adventure, but I am sure you could come up with something around those lines.
