i have an encounter planned that involves an 8 armed bronze statue. the players will activate this monster and it will attack. i know there are several multi-armed monsters that i could create, but since its of the mechanical nature, i want the arms to come off of the statue and act as independent minions. what i'm trying to come up with are some cool abilities for both the statue and the arms. 6 arms will come off the body and maybe grab the players? hold their feet in place? um...grab their face and blind them? i dunno, just trying to think of something. and then after the players are grabbed or whatever by the arms, the statue will get some kind of additional bonus or new attack. you know...kinda like when a monster gets a new ability to attack when a player is bloodied or something.

When the independrnt arms hit, the target is immobilized (save ends) and grant combat advantage (save ends) I f you can track down the TPP Gamma World adventure "Fire in the Sky," the boss monster has about the same thing going on with it's tentacles.

Ground Pound: standard action, recharge; Burst 5 vs. Fort, all enemies in burst. All targets hit are knocked prone and dazed (save ends)

I'm not sure if any actual monsters have an abilty like this.

You could also have some arms detatch and stay where they are, creating a special "Terrain Feature" in the area.

Something like a Minor Action: Each detached arm may make a burst 1 vs. Fort Attack.
Hit the enemy is pulled three squares to the main monster and is knocked prone.

(Basically if you get near an arm it trys to pick you up and throw you to the main monster.)


Another thing to consider...
Maybe if the construct can only make it's special ground pound attack when it has 6+ arms, after which it loses 1d6 arms. 1 arm per round automatically reattaches itself if the main monster is within 2 of it.
(My thought being that the ground pound attack shakes the arms off, and gathering the arms back acts as the monsters recharge, but the players get to see how long until it recharges)

I would have the arms fall then as the ground sakes they vibrate across the room. Or else as he slams the hound they bounce to some other spot in the room.
