So, I've finally found some time to actually build something with my TerrainLinx sets (I have all but the Lost Halls). I start printing like mad and then do some cutting (Yeah, Silhouette SD!), and then I start to do some assembling . . . and have the following problem: Fingers in pic provided by my son If you'll notice on the right side of the picture, the mounting tile is longer than either the street or sewer piece. It's about 2mm longer. It fits fine on the narrow side, but not the longer one. I've checked my printer setting multiple times and referenced the TLX Instructions. Everything seems to be fine. Just to do it, I checked the measurements on a full sized (square) tile, a street tile and the mounting tile. When I did, I noticed something else. On an piece of 8.5 x 11 paper, the part of the tiles that print along the 11" side of the page are about 2mm shorter than the part that runs along the 8.5" side. Does that make sense? Does anyone have any ideas on my problem here. If so, please help! |

Looks like you've got scaling issues. |

I just checked a pile of tile and template printouts I haven't completed yet and mine line up fine. The tile is from Streets and the template is from Lost Halld of the Dwarven Kings. I doubt that matters but I'm just letting you know. |

What kind of printer are you using? I have a 1/16" vertical compression problem on both of my HP's, and had a 1mm compression problem when I had my Sathrican Homeworld tiles printed professionally. For home printing, I have had to copy and paste my tiles into Word and use the image adjustment tool to scale them to .1" larger vertically to get them to print square. It's a pain in the ass when your printer can't handle your needs. Grr.... |

I like your idea, CapnG. However, since they are off by about 2 mm, that will leave a 1 mm gap on either side between the side of the tiles that print correctly and those that don't. And if I had, say, 4 tiles put together (2x2), that would leave a gap of 2mm in the middle. That would be noticeable. The hallways don't bother me, but the square tiles do. I know that it doesn't seem like a much, but, depending on how the tiles are laid out, I can see some rows of tiles in my builds being off by 1-1.5-2 cm. My first project was going to be 3 level sewer system, 7 tiles x 7 tiles. Later, I was going to add 3 more levels of a street/elevated highway scene above--this was to have a good build for some Mordhiem-esque game that I'm wanting to get my son into--and what better way to WOW him and perhaps some of his friends. ![]() I guess I could photo shop the files and try to compensate, but that seems to be an awful lot of effort for that . . . ![]() Since you have the same issue, CapnG, do you have any photos of some large builds (6+ tiles on a side) that you could post and let me see if there really is an issue? Maybe I'm trying to be too much of a perfectionist, but when you have such beautiful artwork, how can I not. Thanks for all of the advice everyone has given me and Thanks in advance for those who still feel they have something to contribute. BTW, I have an HP Photosmart C4440. It's a great printer except for this problem. So if you're thinking about getting one for WWG builds, you might reconsider . . . |
