This is a question for the big collectors among this site, those who have both TLX and older material. My wife an I have only been interested in TLX materials, and have purchased all there is for the fantasy genre (save the Egypt set, which I plan to get). However, given the, as we all know, uncertain future of WWG, I've been thinking of buying everything there is that I might still want from WWG, before the year is up. Not to say I've given up on WWG (I sincerely hope for a resurrection), more that I'm hedging my bets in case something unthinkable happens to this site down the road. So my question is, of all the non-TLX sets you have, which ones do you still get the most mileage out of when playing side by side with your TLX material? Which sets are the most "compatible"? Which have the most parts that could be easily combined? For everyone's record, I already have The Maiden, for ships, as well as the Pubs & Inns and Castles & Keeps interior sets, for the extra (albeit lesser detail) props. |

Easy, . It's an old set, so the quality is lower and it's box build which takes more storage. But being able to drop a farm, village, or small town on the board at a moment's notice happens a lot. Built with Pubs & Inns interiors it even allows for indoor-outdoor flow.

and seem like a pretty cool set to own, too, though I'll be honest I don't own either. I'm wedded to TLX format for now, and while I can convert a lot of stuff to TLX, the older sets at lower resolution don't float my boat enough to justify it. I guess that means I'm not a collector.

I use whenever I need a free form cave system in a game. has great props for coastal and tropical settings. The coastal props come out whenever we're doing a coastal or river scene, but our games rarely extend to tropical climates (an unconscious bias towards more northern settings there!) so the other pieces from that set get much less use. Now, if we were doing a pirate campaign ... Note to self: time to start talking up pirate adventures

I've built more Platform Command than anything else from WWG, except maybe the Forest one. The forest is so darn useful. It was pretty much converted to TLinx so I wouldn't bother. Everyone seems to like Castleworks around here as well. |

Them being compatible does not necessarily come into play when I determine what I use at the table. I use props from a number of sets (Pubs and Inns, VillageWorks, CWU, etc). I use CWU fairly regularly despite the scale being different. I also use old Hinterland tiles regularly since the 7x7 tiles bother me too much. I use my BW and Color Maiden ships regularly. That is all that comes to mind right now, but there could be more. |

The maiden and skull works get by far the most play at my table, and I don't even play pirates. The Maiden is just plain amazing, so we find reasons to use it for our fantasy games. Skull cove I actually use mostly for the props. Jungle, grass, sand, cliffs, shoreline, huts, broken ruins, little boats and a fort. Lots that gets reused for all kind of outdoor encounters. |

The Maiden's the only pre-TLX set that I've built so far, though I've bought many of them. |

I'll be the 4th to hold up The Maiden. Also Village Works. The remainder of the olderest sets are still available over at Paizo. I'm big on vehicles. If you have similar I'd suggest you look at the old Mayhem sets such as Mayhem Traffic (!), Police (several police vehicles), Bank (armored car, modern and classic cars and taxis), Junkyard (tow trucks, antigue trucks, crane with different attachments), Marina (boat), Mayhem Rail (commuter railcar). Most of these also have great interior/exterior furnishings as well. |
