Okay guys, I've been trying to understand how stairwells are constructed for multi-level builds, but I'm just not getting it. At all. I've seen this thread: And also this one: And I've looked at the pics therein. I've also looked at promo pics from many, many different TLX sets. And again, not getting it. I want to construct a 3-story square building consisting of nine 6-inch tiles. The stairs on the first floor will lead up into a hole that, from what I've read, is to be accomplished using post-to-post connectors. But...why? I can join a 3 X 6 tile with a 3 X 3 tile and there will be, in essence, the equivalent of a 6-inch tile with a 3X3 hole. So...what do I need the post-to-post connectors for? And then where do the stairs on the second floor get placed? I've been searching threads and reading and looking at pictures, and I'm honestly so confused I don't even know what questions to ask anymore. So I will instead ask if anyone has any pictures to share of what is entailed in creating a stairwell. I think I just need to see some examples that I haven't yet laid eyes on, because the ones I've seen just aren't doing it for me. I've been puzzling over this for the last two days and my brain hurts, and I'm starting to feel a little frustrated, lol. Any help, examples, and especially pictures, would be greatly appreciated! |

Could be you're trying to over-think things it's actually pretty simple. You use the post-to-post connectors wherever you want walls to stack on top of other walls BUT you don't want a floor in between them. If you need them to fit tight into a corner, you use the ones with the angled ends. Anything else, the ones with the square ends. |

Hi buddy, 'Scuse the quick and dirty freehand (I have done it for one size of tile) ... ![]() Where do the posts go, for the outer walls, at the '?', on the higher levels? So, the P-PCs, are placed on top of the lower, outer wall, and under the next, outer wall, above ... and so on. This creates the void you need, for anything you put in it (with no floors to fill it) !!! Of course, such a void, with certain walls, absent, is the image, in the links, you provided ... Hope this helps, if not, just keep asking ![]() Cheers. CS |

mrcaptainpants, You may not need the connectors depending on the orientation of your floors. If the stairwell is up against the side of the building, there will be no "floor" between the first floor wall and the second floor wall. There will be no place to anchor posts.

Thanks again for the replies, everyone! Tatteredking, I hadn't considered that the gap in the floor tile would be visible from the outside of the model, so your diagram was very helpful. I understand now that although I don't *need* the connectors, the model would look strange without them in that particular instance. Cherno, thanks for posting photos of your awesome build as well. It was extremely helpful to see the position of the stairs in relation to the "hole". Your help (along with Matt's input and Colonel's awesome diagram w/ explanation) was much appreciated. I'll give it a go. Thanks again, everyone! |

Just another hint. You can modify the staircases so that they fit into a 3x3 tile, even with anti-warp tiles surrounding them. I took it one step further and made them into three seperate parts that attach via magnets. It's much nicer having these small staircases than the big 6x6 ones that also have the lower stairs ending directly into a wall. |

Cherno, those stairs...are...awesome. I agree with mrken. Definite kitbash material. |
