This is my attempt at overlaying a hex grid using Gimp. Notice how the hex number going across does not equal the hex number going down. I got the idea of using this sort of pattern from my old Star Fleet Battles maps. I have not modified the size and shape of the original Mayhem street tile, but I did have to modify the hex grid. Since the hex grid is arranged kinda weird on the original map, I had to make four of each of any one tile that could potentially face a different direction. So for this one, I made four different ones each facing a different direction (i.e. turning up, down, left or right). Check it out and let me know what you think or maybe there is room for improvement.

the hexes will not be the same up/down when compared to left/right. That is because if you measure flat edge to flat edge, it will be shorter than measuring point to point. Looks good tho

I am using hex's that are about 1 inch if measured along their flats. About how many should I be able to "fit" left to right? I know I can get 7 going up and down. Does it look sumpin like this?

That looks right to me. Seven top to bottom was the metric I used.

Sweet, thanks for your help. So with using this method will require me to only make up/down and left/right and no more making for of say the curve? Now to get them to print in the right size. Got an ATZ group itching to get into an urban sprawl.

Whew, finally done with Mayhem. It is coming out really sharp and clean looking. Check out my sample, I hope I can print it out to look just as good.
