Post subject: | Himmelvale Tiles - Edges don't cut. Me, The Machine or File? |
Hi there, I got my cutter last week, and while everyone was in the post Halloween Sugar Crash I decided to start cutting some tiles. I started with the big tiles for streets and the square (Generic Big Floors - Streets of Himmelvale). It cut great, EXCEPT on the two sides of the tiles (The East/West sides next to the long edge of the paper) it stopped cutting about 1/2 way up the angle part for the tab that wraps under the foamcore and then did not cut the sides at all. The GSD Looks right to me. It found the registration marks okay. Everything else cut. (and cut great might I add) I was just wondering how to fix this. Is it 'me', is it something about the machine or the file (or was this intentional somehow)? Any ideas are welcome. I'm a cutter noob so I might be missing something basic. It's not a disaster as they are simple long and straight cuts I can use with my regular table cutter, but I want to be sure my setup isn't messed up somehow. Other GSDs are working fine, I printed out some sewer props and it was a thing of beauty. |

Its not the GSD or your hardware. Its actually noted on the instructions on page 15 (Automated Cutting); Incomplete Cuts: While all of our templates are machine cuttable, occasionally when a model element is too large or exceeds the "safe cut area", very minor hand cuts are required. Our "Big floor" tile for example has two flaps which extend out of this range very slightly. Use a pair of scissors of a hobby knife to complete these short cuts. We couldn't quite squeeze that one on there (though we tried) but the cutter does 98% of the cutting. The remaining cuts are really fast and brain dead. |

You want to move the razor holder into the square of the right hand reg mark, not the large black thing right next to the razor. After you do that, (I'm away from my PC right now, so I'm doing this by memory), you uncheck the box for the auto registration mark thing, and click the manual "find registration" (it's the bottom choice in the column to the left of the on-screen arrows for moving the cutting head). The machine will move around for about 15 seconds. When it's done, assuming you don't get an error message, click Next, then Cut, then finally OK. I get your frustration, it was pissing me off no end initially, but after I got it to stop screwing up, it was incredible how much it did, I've this backlog of stuff to edge and glue. I will warn you, keep an eye on the tackiness of the carrier. When it starts losing its stickiness, it'll start screwing up when cutting things with any kind of curve on them. I've extended its life by spraying it with the Krylon Easy Tack others recommended, but that boosted it only for about 10-20 sheets, I've had to re-spray it. |
