Not possible, unless the page just sort of happened to be already magically the right size with the right margins. It's not just an issue of finding and offsetting coordinates--many older sets are also simply not laid out to fit within a 7.5x9.5 rectangle with specific margin settings. (0.5" margin to either side for the rollers, 1" margin at the top, 0.5" margin at the bottom for US Letter documents. For A4 compatibility, there's an extra .12" of margin to both sides, so the frame would be 7.25x9.5.) Even if by some miracle an older set was done to that standard, the machine isn't an intelligent robot that scrutinizes the printed image for dotted/dashed lines or anything like that. It's just a plotter that cuts where it's told to cut by the software, and it doesn't actually know anything about the image itself. The only part of the printed document that the machine is interested in are the L shaped registration marks at the frame corners--it scans JUST those marks with the optical eye, and it uses that to calculate the offset applied to the coordinates in the cutting path data. (The registration marks form a rectangle, and it's that rectangle the machine considers to be the entire sheet.) So, unless your prints already fit inside the aforementioned frame AND there are already registration marks present, your prints cannot be used for this purpose. -Mel |

Thanks for the quick reply Mel. I actually had a brainstorming idea based on the tools available in Robo Master. Robo master actually gives you the image width and height and allows you to position the image based on width and height. If when I printed the PDF it was automatically centered and rotated I should be able to calculate the position the file should be, regardless to the margins. This only works as long as the top and bottom margins are the same AND the right and left margins are the same. Basically the formula would seem to be: 8.5 minus width of image divided by two 11 minus height of image divided by two This should give me the exact center of the document and should line up correctly if the image has been centered (and the above assumptions are true). What do you think? Would that work? |

I wouldn't bother. It's not worth it because without the registration marks and the correct placement on the sheet, you're going to have a high reject rate anyway. If you're going to wear down your blade cutting stuff, you might as well cut pages that are known to be good...such as those already in the proper format. The math doesn't matter--the cutting data isn't centered on the sheet to begin with, printers don't always place images perfectly on the sheet, and people don't always place sheets perfectly on the carrier. That's why the registration marks exist--they tell the machine "Here is the rectangle of interest, offset the cutting coordinates by such and such." If you're worried about wasting cardstock, just lightly X out the already printed side with a pen and print on the other side. If you can't print on the other side, then use them as carrier sheets. If you're worried about wasting ink...well, there's nothing you can do about that right now except cut them out by hand. -Mel |

If it weren't for the stress on my hands I wouldn't mind cutting so much. I work with my hands constantly, both professionally and avocationaly (is that even a word?). Anything that reduces wear and tear on them, I love. |
