They're both the same machine. Quickutz just rebrands the Craft ROBO as the Silhouette in North America because their marketing weenie thinks that sounds sexier to scrapbookers than "Craft ROBO". The software and documentation included with the Silhouette still refers to the hardware as a "Craft ROBO". In Japan, Europe, the UK, and so forth, they're sold as plain old Graphtec Craft ROBOs. The "SD" part of the name comes from the fact that the third-generation machines have a SD card slot in them, and are capable of loading designs from that for cutting. (Sorry to correct you, Denny--this is an important clarification because European customers would be using the Graphtec CC330-20 Craft ROBO III while North Americans would be using the Quickutz Silhouette SD. Same machine, different names, and clearing that up right now saves a lot of confusion later down the line.) -Mel |

Ahh...I get ya. I was assuming for some reason that the "Craftrobo" was a printer/cutter combo. Now I understand. |

300 roughly? Not bad, as long as it's built well. I'll check it out! Glad your arm is getting some much-needed rest! |

If you do a bit of searching there's quite a few places that sell them outright for $200USD or a bit under even. More in the range of a decent black and white laserjet even. http://www.cricut-craftsdirect.com/serv ... ing/Detail for example is one I found when I was searcing a few weeks ago. |

Well, I got a late start this weekend because one of our pets (of 12 years) had to be put to sleep. ![]() But I was still able to get my feet wet doing some conversions, though. In a nutshell, this thing is awesome! Enough blathering, I'll let the pics do the talking... This is the first one I attempted converting. It's from the Coins of the Realms set. I've never previously built these coins because after doing the round ones and seeing what a pain it was to cut perfect circles by hand, I didn't have the heart to tackle these strange arcs. The Silhouette SD makes cutting these shapes easy. For designing the layout file, I got the cutting path down for one coin, then copied/pasted groups of coins to make it go faster. As you can see, it cut out quite a few coins in one run. And I was amazed at how clean the cut lines were. The next one I did was a props page from a clothing store in Mayhem Mega Mall. I love all the neat little WWG props from various sets, but since they're so small, they can be pretty tough on your blade hand. Here's a shot of the layout file in the Robo Master tool. The blue lines are score lines. (Yes, you read that right - it will also score everything for you!) And here's the printed & scored product. All I did was peel off the waste from the carrier sheet: And here's a detail shot of the itty-bitty cash register, with a quarter for scale. These are the kind of props I traditionally build only one of because they're so fiddly. Now I can crank these out by the truckload. Here's one I did this morning - a set of stalagmites from the oldie-but-goodie CaveWorks: In the past, I think I've only built a couple of stalagmites from this set. It's difficult to cut/score the organic curvy shapes by hand and get them to line up after you fold them over. I always ended up having to get out my hobby knife and whittle them into shape. Not anymore! Here's a detail shot of the stalagmites to illustrate how accurate the cuts are. So um...yeah, I'm a very happy camper. And while I mainly buy WWG stuff, I'll definitely be checking out Ebbles Miniatures and One Monk Miniatures for their ready-to-cut products. Like someone said previously, the only thing slowing me down at this point is trying to decide what I want to mass-produce next! |

Awesome summary and pics! Thanks for sharing. It really is a revelation...I know I keep saying that but the more I use it the more I smile ![]() |
