Okay I am new and have been reading the boards about using an automated cutter. It seems as though I read that some people bought an automated cutter and couldn't use the sheets that they printed before purchasing the cutter(on their cutter), and therefore they have to reprint their sheets. If this is the case, can someone tell me why. Thanks!! |

I think what they're referring to is that a robo cutter needs registration marks on the page in order for its optical sensor to figure out the location and dimensions of the printed page. If they bought some sort of papercraft model set that did not come with those registration marks on it, then they aren't going to be able to run those through their robo cutter. In that sort of case, they'll likely have to export the pages for the model and "merge" them into a cutting template in the software provided with their cutter. (Silhouette Studio being the most common) Then, they'll print those pages from that software and have it add the registration marks in the process. Once that's done, they can either create their own cutting template for where to cut and score or use one provided by the model creator or other fans. WWG has supported robo cutters for several years now, so most of their sets include those registration marks right in the PDF pages. Some of the older sets (like The Maiden of the Seas, for example) never had those, though. That's why 3 of us got together last year and created all the cutting templates for The Maiden. We also had to include some instructions on how to print those pages from Silhouette Studio so the registration marks would get included. I hope that helps to clarify. Let me know if it doesn't. |
