Hi all, I am completely new to papercrafting and to this forum, so please bear with me if I ask some boy scout questions. Following a recent purchase of my first Terraclips set (Dungeon Rise: Dungeon Essentials) I have been inspired to make my own scenery pieces and coincidentally, and very luckily, I have recently been given a Craft Robo CC200-20 cutting plotter... very fortuitious! As I say, I'm completely new to all this, including the plotter. So much so that I haven't even got it out of the box yet. In order to get up and running, I wanted to know if someone would be kind enough to offer some advice about how to successfully use the plotter to cut some of the type of scenery available from WWG. My first question really is what software should I install on my Windows 7 PC in order to get the best and most accurate output. The CD's in the box are for Windows 2000/XP and possibly Vista I believe. Secondly, the whole setup of the plotter seems very confusing right now regarding what settings/configuration/card weight etc. I should be using. Any advice that can be offered in this area would be appreciated. I hope I don't appear too lazy in asking for this help. I have limited time (young family, work etc.) and just would like to get up and running without incurring unnecessary time/cost so that I can start making some useful scenery. You can start at Graphtec for the latest Craft Robo software: http://www.graphteccorp.com/craftrobo/s ... index.html and see the rest of their website for info too. Many of us here have moved on to Silhouette Studio software instead of Robo Master, it will run on your cutter, and you can download it for free at: http://www.silhouetteamerica.com/?page=software&lang=en I like Silhouette Studio better myself, I can print and cut from the one program, and specify paper types and so on. I use 110lb cardstock but many swear by photo paper or cover stock, see the discussions and examples in this forum and make up your own opinion. |

I just started using my Silhouette SD about 2 months ago and it seemed awfully intimidating at first. I found this little Noob Walkthrough really helpful my first time trying to cut something: viewtopic.php?t=7809 It's a little older and doesn't match the Silhouette Studio software 100%, but it's really close and walked me through that first cut enough that I could understand what I was doing. I used to use a semi-glossy photopaper, but I'm transitioning to just regular cheap cardstock from Staples now. The paper you use really depends upon your printer and how well it prints and whether you're happy with the prints than anything else. With that photo paper, I would have some issues with my SD not really cutting all the way through the coating on the paper, so I've been setting the SD to really thick paper and telling it to do a double pass. With cardstock, though, I'm going to reduce that 'cuz it's overkill. |

Oh, and I can't stress this enough, my biggest recommendation when starting out is to start SMALL. You'll learn some things the hard way in your first couple of builds, so save yourself some hassle and frustration. I print and cut a big pile of stuff my first time before I realized that the paper I was using would split so the layers would come apart after it was scored and folded. A lot of time wasted. |
