I think I now searched, half of the internet for a good tutorial for Studio and all I can find are tutorials on how to buy shapes from the shop and cut them. Do you know any good tutorials on how to use the Auto Trace function or how to do templates from scratch? |

@Giddi - I went to YouTube and searched for "Silhouette Trace Tool" and got plenty of hits. Here's an example: . There's lots of examples on YouTube, but here's what I know. I'm not much of a fan of auto-trace, but there have been times where it was the only option... Here's what I've done in the past: First, I create a two-color (black and white) image (not greyscale) of the thing I want to trace. That makes it a bit easier for the software to figure out what to trace. I then bring that into the studio software. Next, I open the trace window and select the trace area. Before actually tracing anything, I uncheck "High Pass Filter", set Threshold to 100% and Scale to 1. Hopefully that turns the entire black area of my image yellow. Then, click Trace. Now, you're going to have to edit the resulting trace line by hand. Select it, then release the compound path it's created. That will let you delete all the little bits that gone and created that aren't attached to the actual trace line you wanted. You might also want to go and edit the points on the trace line to smooth out some of the spots. But, that's the basic process I've gone through. Typically when I want to create cutfiles for terrain or standees or something, I do it manually. I use the Draw a Polygon tool and plop out the basic shape, then I edit the points and turn the ones I need to into smooth curves. If something is meant to be symmetrical, I do half of the shape, copy the trace line, reverse it, then I join the two pieces together ("make compound path"), edit the resulting path and connect the end points to make one solid shape. |
