I'm using a Portrait so m cover is always open so i can access the buttons. I think my issue primarily comes from a user error anyway. |

It's been awhile since I checked in here. I'm glad to see we're making progress!!  Okay so did the calibration during my initial attempts to work around the compatibility issues and I got it more or less gnat's @ss. I also cut up a buch of other stuff just to see how the machine performed and confirmed that it was working just fine. I haven't tried the stick-on squares yet but I will take a crack at that this weekend if I have time and report back with data. |

I haven't really been too active with this forum and been really busy with work to get too much cutting done lately, but I did find a way to place the reg marks perfectly where they need to be. Open this PSD file I made in photohop: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/350 ... mplate.psd Import the PDF you want to print into the template. make sure the image file layer is below the template layer so the square shows up, and export to PDF. Print, and cut. worked for me, and no fussing with getting the reg marks again, and everything lined up perfect. |

You can probably do the same thing with gimp. I used to open photoshop files all the time in gimp. |

Holy lord balls jesus in heaven! (THE PDS FIX) ...it worked. I set my depth to the WWG recommendations. I printed form PS a page of 3 inch walls with the black box layer over it. It cut beautifully! Only thing is I don't know how to and don't even try to do automatic reg mark detecting. Not on my SD or Cameo but by gum it worked! There needs to be a way to be able to run a batch file that does this for all PDF's in a folder. Thank you so much for this simple, yet SUPER effective fix my new best friend. - Adam |

I just got a cameo and after a couple of frustrating days where I thought I'd wasted my money I've managed to get it work and it works beautifully and also without any setting changes. After reading this thread before I got it I proceeded to mess about with the settings as suggested in this thread and it would just not cut right.So what I did was using the little reg mark sticker I double click the GSD file I want which opens up the Studio software,load the carrier mat into machine,click send to silhouette button,click skip printing,click continue,click detect reg marks automatically and woo hoo perfect cuts every time without 1 failure yet  I really can't wait to build some truly awesome stuff now I can get all the fiddly stuff cut quickly and accurately. |

Just got my Cameo the other day. After reading a few posts here and applying Mr. Roe's Silhouette Cameo Regmark Patch Kit by editing the pdf in Photoshop Elements, first time up to bat was flawless without needing to calibrate. So far 2 for 2 are spot on, Battle Packs cinematics and Himmelveil Streets 6" tile. Also for 110lb card stock I recommend blade depth 5. |

That's rad, I bet that looked awesome! Anyhow, ya with blade depth 4 on 110lb cardstock I found that the blade did not cut entirely through the paper in some sections. |

That's weird; I'm using 100lb cardstock from Staples and I've been using the setting WWG recommends - blade depth 3 and speed 10 - for... innumerable pages since I got my Silhouette Cameo, and it's worked fine. I've had one or two pages not cut perfectly all the way through, but it's really rare. Since I'm in no hurry (I'm usually edging and gluing way slower than the machine can cut), I've often reduced the speed to 5 instead of 10 and that resolves any issues with imperfect cuts. Even with a blade depth of 3, I can easily see the score marks on my cutting mat after each sheet. I imagine if my blade depth were any greater, I'd be ripping the s*** out of the mat pretty fast! |

A cutting depth of 3 should be enough for 110lb cardstock. I had a blade that was getting dull, and I had the depth set to 5 or 6. The blade was getting worse and worse, and I finally changed the blade out. I set the new blade to whatever the old blade was set to, and started having occasional problems with the gears grinding and the cutter slipping. I tried using a cardstock carrier sheet rather than the OEM carrier sheet, and the blade was cutting right through both sheets! I now have my blade set to 3. I set the speed to the max value, the pressure to the max value, and double-cut the patterns. Not sure if that's the *right* thing to do, but it's serving me well. |

Just for information 110 lb cardstock is 199 gsm ± a few gsm.

Hello, I've posted this in another thread regarding the Cameo, but I saw this thread and figured I'd post here as well. I've for the most part found a simple work around for the Registration Mark issue. In fact, with the software created registration marks, I can use the "Automatically Detect" option when loading my pages saving me even more time having to manually position the page under the sensor. It's quite a simple process, and I've been creating .studio files with Art and Cutpath information for Thoumont's TLX and the Accessories kit. I've created a video here how to do this. One thing of note, I am using Acrobat Pro to save the images out as PNG. Standard Acrobat cannot do this. You might be able to use another tool to do this. The reason I chose PNG over TIFF is the size (8.5 x 11) is preserved during the output process. Converting them to TIFF preserves the full resolution, but then you have to calculate the scaling once imported into Silhouette Studio. Here is the video I created showing the process. |

By chance, have you tried to use something free like GIMP to save the pages as PNG files? Not all of us can afford Acrobat Pro and GIMP is a commonly used alternative to PhotoShop. I know GIMP has had some issues with inconsistent scaling in the past, so I'm wondering if that'll cause issues with this. |

I am also a new Cameo user and have been frustrated by the difficulties in getting the cutter to work. I found the pasted on 6mm square worked well even on complex cuttings (i.e. Telephone Pole from the Traffic Props set). For those of you with the ability to use Adobe Acrobate to place markups and/or comments in the file I have found an alternative to the paste on square method. I just place a 6mm square on the upper left registration mark using the draw markup feature in Acrobat and then print using the "Drawing and Markups" selection. The square is placed on the printout and the registration mark autodetects (even with the instructions in place) and cuts as intended. You can then save the file with the markup in place. I suspect that WWG could use Acrobat's layer's feature to give the pdfs a selection of registration marks using the original files rather than the markup feature. MGKatana |
