I came up with this a few minutes ago for some reason. This is just a brainstorm sort of thing, so I'm sure it would need some refinement and play-testing. Imagine a simple multi-player board game using components from Wormhole to simulate something close to the Asteroids video game. Each player controls a single ship on the playing field. Whether the ships are all equal or not depends on those playing. Generally they'd each have the same stats, regardless of which Wormhole ship type is actually being used. There are a number of rocks (3 or 4 different sizes), each with their own speed, HP, and direction. Each player roles a die to move their ship in a straight line and then another die to attack a line of sight rock (or ship to keep it interesting) with the rocks moving between each players turns. Players move one square in the direction of their previous turn to simulate momentum. Once a rock's HP is depleted, it is replaced by two smaller rocks (if there is a smaller size remaining), each with new speed and direction according to die rolls. The new rocks each have half the HP, and get an extra turn before the rest of the rocks. If a rock collides with a ship, the ship is destroyed and the rock automatically splits in half. The object of the game is to score more rock breaks than the other players, or be the last surviving player. I guess in an emergency a player could use a one time teleport to a random point on the field (determined by die rolls) at the cost of their next turn and momentum. If the destination is occupied by a rock, it counts as a collision and the ship is destroyed. If it is occupied by a ship, the destination's ship is "telefragged" and the teleporting ship loses half of its HP. For added atmosphere, players can make "pew pew" sounds when firing, "krsssssh" sounds while moving, and "do do doo do, do do doo do" sounds while the rocks move. Sounds kind of fun so far. Just needs refinement. |

Definitely sounds interesting! Perhaps you could have bullet tokens that, when fired, move in a straight line for x amount of turns (and wrap around the board) just like the actual Asteroids game. Love to see how this plays out. Good luck. |
