An oldie but goodie for you.

Whilst I was awaiting the launch of Terraclips, I amused myself by starting to build Something Below (a module by Bob Cooper I have been wanting to run for years).

The module is Caveworks based, but having built some pretty impressive VillageWorks, CastleWorks and Hellworks terrain for my gamers over the past few years, I didn't want to step backwards a couple of generations in terms of look and durability of my models, so I opted to build the entire module using the dungeonlinx/kanelinx system, with each individual corridor/room piece mounted on it's own foamcore base for durabilty. This way, the whole module can easily be laid down on the fly and it also gives me a whole package of mine/cave pieces that are 100% reusable for a future (as yet undefined) adventure.

To show you what I mean, here are three photos showing a simple straight caveworks short tunnel, initially modified to be a short mine tunnel with the addition of rail pieces and mine support beams and then further modified to be foamboard mounted and linx'ed to make it reusable and modular. Also, each piece comes out surprisingly tough.







I didn't stop at using this approach just for the corridors, I decided to use it for each of the rooms as well (they are somewhat less likely to be reusable, but they are pretty tough and it will be wonderful to simply slap them down on the table as the party enter them). Here is an example of a single room.



So, having explained my technique, here are a couple of pictures of the top layer of the Sheltered Wind Monastry Mine (owned and run by the Silver Mountain Mining Company) - front view and back view.





Now here are a series of pictures to walk you through the top level, bit by bit. Firstly, the mine entrance

After this, we visit the Storage Room



And finally on this level, we come to the Mine Lift, which takes us down to the next level.

As with the upper level, we can now have a more detailed tour. First up is the Lift Bottom



Next up is the Tracks End room. In the background you can see the Crystalline Cavern (using elements of Bob's big kitbash Crystal Caves).

Then we come to the module's showpiece, the Underground Lake. This deserves two photos I feel, front and back views.





And finally, we reach the Tomb of the Priests and the adventure's conclusion in the Defiled Vault.



I hope you all enjoyed the trip down memory lane and that, in these days of TerrainLinx and Terraclips that the models don't seem too basic and primitive.

I am starting to run the adventure on Tuesday evening (slightly modified to accomodate a 1st level Pathfinder party) and we are welcoming 3 new players to our group, so I hope they appreciate the effort lol. I'll keep you posted of progress if interested.

Oh, and finally, if I EVER have to cut, score, edge and glue up one more mine support beam, I am coming to hunt you down Bob Cooper . Apart from that though, many thanks for such a great scenario based upon the evergreen Caveworks. Building it was a blast Bob and Denny. I am sure running it will be just as good.

Wow! What a great trip down memory lane! Thanks so much for that Frank. I really enjoyed it. My only real point of negativity is that we couldn't garner the right level of support to do more in those series.

Wish this module was still available now that I doing a lot Pathfinder, it would convert in a second.

the only thing i would have changed is the color for edging the crystals... a light blue or even grey suited better imho.

Well, the adventure has been completed and a grand time was had by all. It took 3 evening sessions, the last finishing at 1am on a work night !!!

The module (despite being advertised for 4* 3.5ed 4th level characters) worked very well for 6* PF 1st level characters. I actually added a few more zombies on the top level but took out one of the zombie mules (two didn't fit terribly well in the room anyway). I also took out one of the Crystalline Earth Elementals and took a level of conjurer away from Kanis Devon (the party wouldn't have enjoyed being lightning bolted at first level). Apart from that and adding a couple of caches of CLW potions to keep the party going, I played it exactly as written.

Everyone survived, although the Paladin went unconsious a few times lol.

Great stuff and thanks once again Bob and Denny (and Aubrey for the SB models).

Love the work done on the series, and honestly I for one can say I would snap up any of the continuation of those modules... or modifications/updates to a terrainlinx system.

What an outstanding build; I love what you did with this!

Another thing that caught my eye.... your edging leaves thick, dark, lines. They are consistent however. It honestly adds a neat style to your work.
