Grrr...Thanks for the heads up DR. It's been a particularly bad EBay month. Just received a mail from another fellow who caught someone selling complete WWG compilations on CD and hawking himself as "an official WWG vendor". It never ceases to amaze me how low people will stoop and or how dumb they can play when confronted. I'll give this fellow a gentle "um excuse me but you are violating our terms of use" (and screwing over our content creators) before I get nasty. |

Hmm... Can you use a DMCA take down? I was once ripped off by an eBay vendor, and I complained to the US Federal Marshals. Those guys crawled all over the guy who ripped me off. The real problem is that the courts believe that its just a commercial issue, best settled with money. So... special interest groups like the RIAA have laws put into place like the DMCA, and defined damages for infringement etc. There are other ways you can protect yourself... Water Mark the PDFs that you sell, and put a poison pill in your EULA. (The usual... If they wish to sell your stuff, then they automatically agree to pay you $10,000 for each unit they sell. Then feed them to the lawyers.. Offer the lawyers 70% or even all of the takings.) Oh... put in more than one Water Mark if you do this. Repeat offenders will be highly annoyed if they get caught more than once. |

I like a good take down story as much as the next, let us know how it turns out. Since the location of the seller is posted (assuming it is real) should be pretty easy to determine who it is from wwg order list. |

as much as i look at these particular auctions and see they're relatively harmless, if we allow them then it'll just snowball from there. its not like there's a fuzzy line, the line is already there. a quick way might be to contact ebay and tell them that he's selling copyrighted material without permission. they've had flak in the past from the riaa and mpaa, so i think they'd be quick to act. might shut down the auctions or more. but save that for when he doesnt cooperate. |

For me it is the fact that I get the build that I want - which is why I tend to prefer the 'Toolkit' models (Interior Works, Castle Works, Cave Works, etc.) over the specific model builds, like Harbour Master. Seeing a return to this approach with Shellendrak and Hellworks has made me a happy grump.

I am rather sorry that the CD sales weren't all that hot - I think that they would make great gifts. I actually tried ordering the Maiden Cd through my local game store - but the manager never followed through. There is a reason that that game store is now three years gone.... The Auld Grump |
