Post subject: | TLX Atlantis |
So I'll be getting Atlantis next week thanks to this wonderful Christmas sale being run. Looking through the instructions yesterday, my thoughts so far on a conversion to TLX: * Walls, posts, roofs. Shouldn't be too difficult. If anything, the construction system used looks to be a precursor to TLX and some work in Fireworks should be all that's needed to make the change to full-blown TLX. * Squid, Poseidon, Trident, Crystal. No changes needed. Props are lovely like that. * Ladders. Not sure. * Floor tiles. Other than edging them all with the Masterboard marbled edge texture, how hard is making the change from 7x7 to 6x6 going to be? Anyone had a go at this already? * Walkways. Hmm. These, the pillars and platforms all work on 2" widths. My current thinking is to look at making a half-width TLX connector and placing it in the centre of the 2". I've not tried templating this yet and I can already see it having problems with the platform where up to 4 walkways could join. Making the walkways 3" wide would look wrong. But then the walkways already have their own connection system - does it even need changing? Anyway. That's where I'm at so far. Studying the Atlantis build instructions to see where TLX can be integrated. Probably won't have time to do anything on it until the new year but we'll see. Thoughts? |

ScrubKai, point from Denny duly taken. If it goes very, very well I might submit it as an official kitbash. However, my skills are not that strong! Round posts? A challenge indeed. If I'm feeling adventurous over Christmas, I might just take you up on that one. Curling things around assorted knife handles might give the required dimensions. It's a long shot, but it might just work... Definitely going for gridless floors for the ground tiles, except the transition to marble ones where it's not too hard to slice out a 6x6 from the original and keep the marble tiles in scale with the marble floors. Which are 6x9 in this set, cut to the shape you require. As for adding a grid, we'll see. Started confidently on the 3" walls today as a proof of principle. Was about to print out when I realised the folding works the other way in Atlantis! This is going to take a little longer... |
