Quick question; where are the props from? I recognize some of them from the Maiden, but the paintings and others I do not... Thanks! |

The paintings and the chests in the afthold on the bottom right are both from shellendrak. The trunk in the bottom left of the afthold is from dungeonworks classic. The food crates in the galley are from villageworks. The round barrels are a personal kitbash of the square barrel from seigeworks. The original of which is standing up on the right against the side of the maiden cargo cube in the afthold. The large octagonal barrels in the midships hold are from Pubs and Inns. The bed in the aftcastle is from Pubs and Inns as well. The nightstand is from Shellendrak The aftcastle bookshelf and the forcastle crates are both non-WW. The ballista on the deck are from seigeworks. Which kitbash are you waiting for? |

Very cool, glad to see the advice you wiggled out of me was helpful. The U-shaped tabs are an interesting idea, one I had initially but dismissed for my own purposes as I don't photoshop yet. One of the questions you asked me was whether the tabs I used in the slots were too thin and might rip with the weight of the sails. I can honestly say there is zero wear on them even after all this time. They are more than strong eneogh to hold up the sails. Love to see this kitbash finally used by someone else and glad you are able to provide it to the public (something I can't do doing physical bashing instead of computer lol). Great Maiden build overall LD2062, can't wait to see more from you. |

I had not really considered submitting this as a bash, it seems too simple for that. All that is involved is mirroring the front section of the standard arms so that there are 4 copies of it. <a href="http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg189/wwg2062/maiden%20of%20the%20high%20seas/?action=view¤t=yardarm.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg189/wwg2062/maiden%20of%20the%20high%20seas/yardarm.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> Simply use half the white section between the sides as a tab. Leave square tabs at the ends of the arms to make the ends face of the arms. These end pieces I simply colored with black marker. If you do make 3d arms I do recommend that you use Shatteredragon's method of cutting slots in the top front edge of the arms for the sails to hang. My over the top tabs work, but they are rather more bother, and they have a tendency not to sit flush on the arms. I might consider making a kitbash for this if people want it. But I'm stuck on the double sail. The problem is that additional arm. It doesn't have a version of the arm without the sail texture. So its alot harder to make a 3d version. The middle section, I made 3d like the other arms, the back side of that section I put on the bottom. I used scrap pieces of mast to make ends on this middle section. Then I added foamcore to reinforce the rest of the arm. The top of the foamcore is covered with more scrap yardarm. The base is done with a section of the sail. I've spent awhile today working on the kitbash. Now by and large I'm going to follow what I did for my original version. Using 2 of the front and back pieces to make a 3d shape. Now this might be an issue for those people who are real sticklers for correct shadows and highlights. Because the 3d shape produced has 2 sets of highlighted and shaded areas. Rather than a single highlighted top and shaded bottom. And quite frankly I don't have the texture skills to make it into a single set. Heres an end to show what I mean. Now that double sail boom is an additional issue. I've decided to do it as plain wood, avoiding using the rear side because it contains sail texture. Without the sail texture it can be used with other color sails, like the black pirate sail in the kitbashes. But the fact that it actually has two different widths complicates things. Now the middle section I could do like all the other booms. But that would mean I had to create a 5mm wide piece that transitioned from light to dark. And even if I could do so that transition piece would not line up with the transition of the middle section. The other alternative is to have the rear texture mounted with highlights on top, and then to create a highlighted top for both widths and a shaded bottom for both widths. I figure that this method would probably yield better results. I've got an initial version of the middle section done. I've got one of the highlighted and shaded boom ends done. Those 3 pieces on the right, the other is one of the regular 3d booms. I'm not sure if that metal end cap highlight look right though. I'm thinking about trying to do a transition version of the foamcore edge to see which version people prefer. |

Hey Zenguy: I will say the 3D booms are completely worth it. By using them you can swap out the sails whenever you want as opposed to glue sails on, it's a much more elegant system. |
