| Post subject: | Color problem while kitbashing |
I am building a Mayhem Armoury set, and ran into a little kitbashing problem. I have created a set of apartment stairs by combining the shop staircase with textures from the apartment building. Below is a low-resolution sample/ (Moderators, feel free to delete if I'm violating anything by posting this.) It all looks good on-screen, but when I print it, the colors are totally different. I do not understand this, as Photoshop confirms I used exactly the same colors. My assumption is that the colorspace is being modified in the PDF somehow. Can any of you experienced kitbashers provide a solution? |

ha, I've had the same problem... sadly I'm too much of a noob to have a solution... Also, that looks VERY similar to my kitbash of the stairs, except I left the white on the actual stairs white... |

I am a total beginner with PhotoShop, but could I suggest trying all the color options in the print menu on plain paper? There are several options for how the color is handled by the printer there, all confusing to me, so I usually leave it on let the printer decide, heh,  .

My first question is how you are getting to the image to bash? Are you exporting the PDF page to an image? Using cut and paste? If you cut and paste, are you pasting to a new image, or an existing image? I've had issues with cutting and pasting images before, usually due to the palette, type, number of colors, etc. Then, when you print, are you printing from the image software, or are you converting your finished image to a PDF and printing from Acrobat? I always do the latter, if only to make sure that all of my visible/hidden print settings are identical. |

I've had problems with trying to do similar kit bashing as well. Mostly what I've been doing is reducing the size of the model from 1.5" to 1", but have seen color changes on the image. I've never really tried to track down the issue, but since someone else is having a similar problem, I guess I need to research it a little more. I had thought that it was just an issue of using different printers, a laser at work and an inkjet at home. I suggest you try to open the PDF in Photoshop, no import, copy or whatever. It might take a while, depending on how fast a machine you have. Next, make sure your color space info stays the same after you've opened the image. Finally, if you can, save the image as a PDF again. I'm not sure if that is the issue, but it could be. The big thing is, can you save it back as a PDF. I'm going to do some research again since I know someone else is having the same issues as I am. I'm guessing that because of the difference in how the document is saved then opened, modified and either printed or resaved and printed could be wacking out the color space as that's the only thing that I can think of that would change the colors like that. Well, that or you're using two different kinds of printers, but really as long as they have full ink cartridges and nothing is wrong with the print heads, one printer should generate the same results as the next, provided it's not some cheapo and is using the same kind of technology to generate the image. Meaning, if you have a printer that is a CMYK printer and you print a document from that, then print it from another CMYK printer, you should get similar, if not the same results from both. Course, if you have a printer that is a CMY printer, which I've seen high end production models like that, you get the printer trying to create black in from Cyan, Magenta and Yellow and you get more of a dark muddy green than black.
