Kitbash Bucks, which will allow purchasers of any set to purchase any of the Kitbashes. So if I buy Mars Base and Aleph releases Deluxe Lawnchaires for Hedge Works I will be ablu to use the credit for that. The Auld Grump |

Denny - I know you've stated you don't want to maintain multiple customer databases to cover those people who buy through RPGnow or other sources. But would it be possible to do a one-time import of the RPGnow customer database instead? That way at least you don't punish those people who have bought lots of sets from you in the past, but they would need to migrate to the WWG store to get credit in the future... |

Having looked into non-present credit card processing in the past, the main problem I see with the "small fee for download" model is that you'll end up paying more to process the transactions than you would be receiving in fees. The only way around this that I can think of is to set up a fee schedule such as $5 gets you 5Mb worth of download credit, $10 gets 15Mb credit (just as examples). This way you can still cover your bandwith costs without the CC processing fees eating up all of the money you're taking in and your customers can pick and choose which files they want to download. |

what keeps file-sharers from grabbing all the free content on RPGNOW? There's a bunch of free downloads there. Their implementation doesn't give a direct DL link from the site. You "purchase" the item for $0 and it e-mails you the special link (which is interpreted by the CGI script and translated to a file download). These extra steps mean the bad-guys can't content scrape you. There's never anything you can do to stop folks from getting your stuff through normal channels then posting it to a file-share network (ultimately, somebody had to buy it and post it). All you can therefore prevent is direct content scraping. Janx |
