This set of instructions covers three different yet similiar prop pieces including the bookcases from both Castles & Keeps InteriorWorks, and DungeonWorks Classic, and a Chest from the Maiden. (I have removed the stairs for later instruction editing and pic linking). 1) Print and cut out the cardstock pieces to be assembled as shown here. The method used with the bookcase apply to all bookcases and boxfold chests that are bottomless. 2) Glue to the backing of your choice (Matboard, Foamcore, though this might be a little too thick for props, Balsa Wood, etc...). If your new to this type of build, you might want to leave a little more room than I did. Also take note that in the case of the stairs one part is left unglued as it is the reverse side of one of the sides glued to the matboard. 3) Cut out the pieces for assembly and edge them, for the Bookcases and the Chest, you can use these pic as an example of where to make the 45 degree bevel cuts, the arrows point to where these cuts are made, everywhere not marked is a straight cut. There are pics of the front and back for easy pictoral reference. Cut example of DW Bookcase (Chunky Dungeons) back, and front. C&K's Bookcase back before edging, after edging, and front. And though this isn't marked, here is the Maiden's Chest back, and front. 4) Apply glue to the edges of the pieces to be glued starting with the side and front parts, you can hardly see it in this pic of glue applied. i left this one fullsize. 5) Attach one of the side pieces to the front and the other to the back piece as shown in these pics here. C&K's Bookcase Angle 1 C&K's Bookcase Angle 2 DW's (Chunky Dungeons) Bookcase Maiden's Chest In all cases being careful not to glue them on upside down (a mistake I have made in the past) and make sure they match up properly before you let the glue set. 6) Glue the two partially assembled parts together and hold as shown here, until the glue dries eneogh to let stand on it's own. At this point you should have something that looks like one of these two pics. DW's Bookcase Maiden's Chest 7) Apply glue to all four sides of the top piece, and insert, hold until glue drys eneogh to hold itself, here is what they should look like. |

Since I was doing chairs today, I decided to take pics and post instructions, a brief note, this is an extremely complicated build that is time consuming. To do eight chairs took 2hrs, a lot of patience, and careful cutting. Props: Chairs: 1) Print and cut out the cardstock pieces to be glued as shown . 2) Glue the parts that need to be backed to your backing. Here is a pic of the to the backing, and the parts that will be glued later. While doing this build, I made the of glueing a part to the backing that was not supposed to be backed, fortuneatly I noticed before the glue dried and removed the piece, otherwise it would have ruined the entire build. 3) Take the parts that have been glued to the backing and cut them out as shown (45 degree cuts have been turned over), and (45 degree cuts on the printed side). The 45 degree cut should only be necsessary where the seat joins the front legs of the chair. 4) Take the unglued reverse pieces (chair back, and the inside leg parts)and the parts they are to be glued to and glue them in place. Here is a , and here are the same . For the front legs, you will have to trim of a small bit to account for the 45 degree angle cut as shown here from the , and here on the . At this point in time, I all exposed white edges as it was easier to do them now than later in the build, although more edging is required further on. 5) Now take the pieces and them into their parts for the individual chairs. Again, edge the newly exposed white edges. Here is a closeup of all the parts for one chair (before the legs have been cut out). If you do not want to cut out the legs proceed to step #7. 6) Now you cut out the legs. First cut along the portion to be removed. For this cut I place the blade tip in the corner, and push straight down, then do the same for the opposite corner, and the middle. Then I turn the piece over and make sure that the other side has been cut properly through, again using the tip of my blade to make the cuts. For the legs, I again place the tip of the blade in the corner, and , then I scissor cut toward the bottom of the leg as shown , and pull the knife straight back (though I am not holding the piece in the pictures, I am holding the piece steady while making the cuts). Then remove the black portion as shown . Again, edge the newly exposed white edges. is what you should have at this point. 7) Assembly. Take the front legs and the seat of the chair, apply glue to the 45 degree edge, and , being sure to make sure the piece dries square. Once your sure the glue has dried eneogh to pick up and handle, take the assembled part, apply glue to the edge to be glued to the chair back, line it up with the line on the back of the chair (the line between the chair back, and the inside rear legs), and Repeat this step for all prepared chairs. To insure the chairs were squared, and would sit flat on all four legs without a wobble, and line up with each other, I used the 45 degree brace I made out of lego, and placed the chairs as Once the glue has dried, you should now have eight completed chairs. Hey SD! I think I figured out how to do absolute addressing of the pictures on the WWG gallery, so your links in this thread won't get screwed up if someone happens to resort your picture album... For example, the first link in this thread, labeled "Cardstock parts" links to http://wwgallery.pcinfoman.com/displayi ... =106&pos=9 . That last "pos=9" assumes your "Props Instruction Pics" album has been sorted by filename. (I often sort people's picture albums inversely by date to see their most recent work first, which means all the links in this page are off for me.) Now, if you click on the little information icon top left, a bunch of extra information pops up underneath the picture, including the actual filename (Picture 095 (Large).jpg, in the above example), picture size and dimensions, etc. Second from last line there is titled "URL:", with a link next to it. That link seems to uniquely identify the picture, regardless of what cookies are set on the reader's computer. For example, for the "Cardstock parts" picture above, that link is: http://wwgallery.pcinfoman.com/displayi ... ?pos=-1020 So... everyone wanting to post links to pictures residing on wwgallery... from now on PLEASE only use the URL entry under File Information. Do NOT use the URL of the page you just happen to be looking at! |
