Following an idea from Master Kitbasher Mike Proteau, I created those barriers, called, as I learned then, "Cheval de frise". ChevalDeFrise2.jpg [ 81.94 KiB | Viewed 16091 times ] They should work very well with the orc camp. The small pikes are a hell to fold and glue, so I have to test an alternative way to create them. |

Looking good. Two suggestions: a) stronger spikes, as not sure how long those ones will survive in use, and b) wonder if there's a way to make them to store flatter. Have sent you a PM about the old SiegeWorks spike barrier bash. |

Looks good. Did you cut first or fold and glue first? With little bits, like this, I usually fold and glue first, then cut around the completed item. |

For this kind of prop, I don't think 'storing them flat' is going to be much of an option. Better to make it more solid for game-play use, I think. |

I had a look at Bob's bash, and it's great. I think I'll stay to my format, though, which is simpler than the complex version of Bob (a 3d cylindric log, and 3d ~cylindric pikes) and sturdier than the simple version (a completely flat version that you fold in two to create the volume). I will enlarge the pike, though, in order to strengthen the support. As for a fold flat version, I think that it is achievable by cutting only two sides of the log box and gluing the pikes on it, which will lead to a solution similar to the flat one from Bob : pikes glued to two connected logs, that you fold to create a 3d effect. Then, as Mike pointed out, you could also create the box log and use bobby pin to connect the fold-flat version to the log. The pikes will then store flat, while the log will still be 3d, but a simple box is easier to store than a complex stake barrier. |

Thanks for your feedback. I'll think then that I will stick to my design, but add alternate instructions in the bash for those who would like to create fold-flat or two-parts versions... |

I threw an idea together quickly to test something I had in mind for this. This is for geometry and storage testing; no textures, glue, or detail cuts yet. I have a central log with a fixed diameter. It is currently open at both ends, although a final version could have a fixed closed end and a hatch-style other end. There are five spikes, each of which will have sharpened ends. They are currently the same length as the log; I see the final version being slightly shorter than the log. There are holes in the log to push the spikes through for game use. When not in use, all five spikes fit inside the log. It is not exactly fold-flat, but it is certainly a space saver versus keeping it fully assembled. I have it held together with tape for testing, but obviously this would be glued. Thoughts? |

That's a fun idea. Maybe having to insert/remove pikes may weaken the central log over time... Anyway, I've submitted my version for kitbash. Other ideas may generate additional bashes |

Sounds like a cool, efficient, easy concept design. |

Too late now for additional input on this since it's been released, but... another version could be a hollow log. Double-over the central round log to see interior as well, and still use the same spikey logs. It would be easier for the orcs to move about ... heck, what am I saying? Orcs don't mind a little WORK! So much for delayed brainstorming... |
