So, I started modifying the Upstairs tiles for Thoumont's recently. I wanted to make them anchorless, since I'm working with magnets and I hate TLX anchors with a passion. I removed the flaps on the sides for the Linx Tabs completely, as well. What I came up with isn't perfect, but is pretty decent, I think: One thing that has always bothered me about Thoumont's, though, is that even the tiles with wood floors have those grey edges instead of something that looks more natural with the wood. Heck, even some of the promo pictures for the set show some really nice, wood edges: Why didn't we get those with this set? Anyways, since I had already done a lot of work on the tiles, I figured I may as well try the same thing. The thing is, I just can't decide which looks better: 1) Copying the closest part of the tile for each edge: 2) Copying that same part of the tile, but flipping it, so it's a mirror image: The top and bottom edges/side in #1 look really good when printed, cut and folded. That little piece of board closest to the fold actually kinda looks like you're seeing the edge of the closest board. I'd like to say that this was intentional, but it was just an accident, really. The parts that bother me are the left and right edges. Specifically, the areas where there is a dark spot or smudge on the floor and it got duplicated in the edge. Whether it's version #1 or #2, it just jumps out at me as odd looking. Or maybe I'm just being too much of a perfectionist about it. What do you guys think? |

I think if you look real closely at all the TLX tiles, you'll see all the tricks that get played. The most common thing to do is copy the 75px edge, flip it, and use that as the side. But if some spots bug your OCD, whip out that clone tool and cover it up. Noone else is gonna notice or care, to be honest. usually you're looking at a small number of edges, and you're never really STARING at the edges of the tiles, you're looking at the stuff on the tiles. And, there's a market for anchorless tile kitbashes, if you're inclined to fix up all of the grid formats. It's a chore, to be sure. I've been "almost done" with The Garden tiles (all of em) for ages. That tile set is a pain in the butt! |

Ya know, I knew as soon as I posted something on here about having converted something to anchorless, I would get someone asking me to do the same to all the rest of the set and submit it as a kitbash. Just converting the 1.5 inch tiles for this set took several hours and challenged my OCD quite a bit. The thought of doing it all again 2 more times doesn't thrill me. Maybe you're right. I'm just being too picky. I might still just copy some similar sections of floor that don't have those spots and put them in place on the edges, instead. |

There's always the option of just admitting up front that you don't want to do it for every grid system. It's a lot of work for something you aren't ever going to use yourself. If it works out, though, that you can do the coverup in a layer that can be applied to all the other gridded tiles, then it might not be all THAT much work. I'll be around for morale support if you need it! If you get a bunch of jpg or png files done, and want someone else to assemble pdfs, just let me know. |

Yeah, it would be easy if the grid was just layered on top of the texture, but Thoumont's used their "stealth grid" approach where they tried to show it using the edges of the floorboards with subtlety. I assume that would mean distinctly different patterns in the texture as a result. We'll see how I feel about it after I've actually built something with this and my magnets that are supposed to arrive tomorrow. |

Yeah. Now that I look at it, every floor is different. Yikes! That's like The Garden, except with The Garden, I can't think of any good reason why the textures are different... but they are. Especially where the anchor spots are.  Focus on doing what you need to get done. If you feel like getting ambitious, maybe we could split the work. |

One inch, but if you're gridless, that works too. I end up going over the natural grid with a Sharpie most of the time anyway to make it more easily visible on the table. |

I'm doing 1.5 inch at present, so that's all I've made anchorless so far. Got tired of all those D&D and Pathfinder minis that claim they're "Medium" size, but that knock over all the other minis next to them 'cuz they're ridiculously large. |
