I've started a sketchbook to let me play with some kitbash ideas at work where I can't do physical prototyping very well. A thought popped into my head while sketching out some of my bridge ideas. I had been thinking that I'd like to use stairs on either side of the bridge as one option, and I'd like the stairs to work in any of the three directions coming off the end of the bridge. I'd like to NOT have to make a whole bunch of bulky stairs in order to have the flexibility of using them in different configurations, when really all that would change is the sides. I am hoping it might mean I can make one set of railings for use with stairs AND ramps... For example, take the three stairs you can build now with HV Streets. There's left, right and no rail stairs. How about, instead, ONE core stair structure, and replaceable sides to allow for a side with railings, a side without railings... or if someone kitbashes new railings, just swap them out! So, I'm going to try a prototype of this probably early next month. I wish I had thought to do it back with my 3d Garden prop, since it would make it easier to change out the sides based on how you want to use it. If it works well, maybe I'll pitch a v2 of that prop... As I work on the stairs, I want my new pattern to allow changing the back wall of the stairs too (so you can have a railing there too, if you want!) and I want to allow the core stair structure to fit around posts. I think this will just mean that (a) the stairs will be short enough so that they fit along a 3" wall without hitting two posts, and (b) the back corners have tabs for posts, but they can easily be covered by the slot-in sides. |

hey mproteau, did you ever see my spiral stair kitbash for Feisty Friar? Your work here made me think that I hadn't finished it. That was a simple enough build, and it slots in with the TLX posts. I need to finish that one... |

I attacked the back texture for the wall as I wanted to stack the stairs in an open tower without floors. I still have a little work to get them that far. |

so, I THINK I am done with the Friar stairs. Going to print them out this evening and see about getting them done up right next week. Take pictures, etc. But I started thinking, why only submit stairs for the Friar? Thoumonts is half done. Deadfall is next. Then maybe Himmelveil and Oubliette. Hoping I can get Friar, Thoumonts and Deadfall asseblmed by next week, take the promo pics and submit them. |
