Tonight's progress... I only have four PDFs to go: 3" Toppers 6" Toppers Balcony Hall Flat Roofs Just haven't gotten my brain around the toppers yet, but I've got a lot of test building ahead of me. I still have yet to actually print/build a flat-roof building! Oh, and maybe I'll do corner caps. Not sure what they'd look like for fantasy buildings. It'd be fun to have gargoyle textures... Hmm... I don't really *make* textures, I just clone em... I'm thinking for the balcony I'll either completely build it out of the same wood used in the beams from the walls, or I'll make the floor portion out of the wooden floor tile, and use the beams to make the sides/supports. I'm thinking, too, that I won't make the railing sides solid wood - I'll cut out the centers. The end is near! This means the next big hurdle will be promo pics! |

D. U. N. DUN. I'm declaring feature freeze on this baby. I'm printing and cutting a test of the balcony page now. I hope it looks good! I'll snap a quick shot of a building with an awning and/or a balcony attached. I think I'm going to have to re-export all the PDFs after fixing up the template I used - the heading was a mash-up of the SwiftScenics heading and the Thoumont's heading... No biggie. That shouldn't be too bad to do. |

More pics are available , but here's the latest building with a balcony: I think I might redo the balcony textures. I adjusted them from the Thoumont's balcony, but since these railings are shorter by a bit, the wood beams look too chunky for my taste. Am I just being picky? Maybe I'll leave em this way and submit everything as a kitbash for review. I'm sure there are other things people might have issue with. I might leave the header boo-boo as-is until I find out whether this would be accepted as a kitbash or what. I'd like some WWG feedback on how it came out. I'll let them tell me if they want a kitbash header on it or a Thoumont's SwiftScenic header on it. I don't want to fix it up twice! There are a LOT of pages to this. In case you're wondering what's included, here's walls and roofs: That doesn't include flat roofs, balconies, awnings, supports and toppers. I've got some assembly to do! So, I'll get this submitted to the authorities as soon as I can, and I'll move on to other things while I await feedback! |

In the few spare moments I had this morning, I assembled a flat-roof structure to see how things would go. I printed out hall supports and 6" supports (for two different buildings) and cleverly mixed them up, which forced me to modify the floor a little to fit. No matter. Even with the modifications, it all went together well. I'm getting much better at assembling the SwiftScenic buildings so they don't warp... Here's a growing Himmelveil city: I like how the textures go together well enough that I don't feel I need to go back and fix anything. I used both 3" and 6" toppers here for the first time, and they are OK. No worse than the ones that come with the original set I based this on! |

Finished a couple more buildings this evening. Definitely NOT reinforcing the sides with extra cardstock is the way to go. I'm still not having good results with the roofs. The ones with an overhang are Ok, but the ones with no overhang just don't do a good job meeting the edge of the building, or they curl up too much in the corners. |

You beauty! It's great seeing them like that - you really have have cracked SwiftScenics Village and Town buildings. Much as I love the detail and flexibility of TLX, the time required to build enough for a decent village or town has been prohibitive for me. Now there's way to get the extra buildings required for street battles without spending enormous time constructing TLX pieces for buildings that no one is going to go into. Plus, as it's using Thoumonts textures, it will be easy to swap in a TLX version if the characters do go into one of your SwiftScenics buildings. I'd love to see this released as a authorised WWG SwiftScenics set. |

The build continues... I still have a HUGE pile of sides left to assemble, and a number of roof pieces that I haven't touched... I really need to build some more TLX Himmelveil Streets pieces now. I have no anchors on my tiles, and I've never had a 2nd floor to my HV builds! Regarding TLX vs. SwiftScenics... Yeah, there's a bit of up-front overhead. But, I am still in love with TLX. It doesn't take THAT long to build each piece (SwiftScenics still requires a lot of edging and gluing, and then there's all the supports that need to go into the buildings). I like that I have the choice now, though! |
