I was thinking of something similiar to this. Unfortunately gaming scale with 1" hexes makes it very tight but doable. undoable at 1.5" hexes.

Now, back to the diner discussion. Slymoon, be sure to show us what you mocked up when you get your flash drive back.

It would be great to do a collaborative kitbash since there are so many options for where this could go...

- Unger's (similar to Dennys)
- roadside diner like the railcar idea
- roadside diner like Waffle House
- Meat and Drink (based on Steak & Shake) as a half drive through place

All kinds of ideas.

Wasn't being negative just clearing up some issues, sorry if you take it the wrong way, to each there own.

That makes sense. With such limited space, it's more important to figure out the internals, and then wrap the external cover around it.

A combined effort megabash sounds fun to me, but it would need a highly motivated and organized project lead. Working with volunteers and pushing for deliverables is hard when everyone is doing it just for fun.

I hope someone does come up with a plan that could work on this, but I suspect it won't happen

This is kinda what I was thinking.
Though the Car is roughly 1.5" off the ground if I recall, it makes for huge ramp/ stairs. Now the car box could be put on on anything instead of the chassis. But I like the look of the chassis.

The biggest deal is going to be to come up with a nice grill/ griddle texture.
We have most the textures for fridge, bar top and so on. Even stools I think. Though some of those textures I dont own.

This particular layout gives about 1" for both the counter tops, 2" for both the walk areas.

ie: the breakdown from cook wall to front is: 1/2" + 1" + 1/2" + 1"

The grill can be a simple stainless steel colour plate. Of course that would be a clean grill. This type of build really requires a grease blackened grill, yes?

BTW...looks real nice slymoon!

Looking really nice so far. It looks like you've designed it so the stools can slide under the counter, giving a clear walkway... very nice.

Pelthar, it definitely needs lots of grease a grime. The kind of grill that has black around the edges, and a really burnt corner.

Not sure how do get those done right...

Since I don't have time to test this (car pool buddy is waiting for me )..

Start with a layer the colour of stainless steel. Add new layer and add to the new layer a radial gradient that goes from dark brown in the centre to black on the outside and fill the canvas so the black is along 3 sides of the layer. Then use an alpha mask to erase out the gradient so that you can see the grill surface. It would take a little while to make it look right and you may have a add other areas of the dark brown -> black gradients, but this might get the effect.

But like I said, I don't have time...my carpool buddy just called...again.

This looks like a great kitbash. I love how clearly your sketchup model shows the design.

Slymoon, that sketchup it absolutely wonderful!! You've captured the essence of it beautifully!! I agree with the others ... that grill would be greasy, to be sure, but not really black. They kept them scrapped well but there'd always be that sheen of hot brownish oil.

Just a suggestion here, the car could be longer, and vent caps on the roof. But your sketchup just overwhelms me ... its beautiful and you have really nailed the essence and charm of the diner. I love it!
